Did a search and couldn't get results.

What kind of velocity is typical for a cannon, like a shipboard one. I know this question is super generic, but I just wanted to get a feel for what these things are capable of.
 
1300 to 1600+ feet per second muzzle velocity? :shocked2:

No wonder those cannons could shoot big holes thru things like ships and such!
 
Pouring sand on the gun decks was commonly done before battle so the deck wouldn't become slippery from all of the blood and body parts that would be all over the place.

Pretty grim situation with 15 inch thick oak walls become splintered into a thousand pieces as the ball passes thru. :shake:
