Howdy all! I'm needing some resources regarding what bushwackers would've worn during the events of bleeding Kansas. Please send some photos or illustrations from both the 1800s and or your reenactments! I look forward to seeing what this wonderful community can show.

Happy trails,
-Poke

Lawrence wasn't a "battle", it was ruthless massacre of innocent civilians. Lots of period pictures of Quantrill, Bloody Bill Anderson, James brothers, etc. available on line that show how they dressed. The one of Bloody Bill's dead body shows a rather ornate shirt.

Yet celebrated as some kind of great military victory.

Here are two photos I took from the Arabia collection. I suspect other clothing appropriate to the time period would be correct unless you can find uniform documentation.

I have never heard the raid referred to as a military battle. The lawrence raid was purely a revenge raid and to retrieve stolen items previously stolen by cowardly jayhawkers who attacked innocent families In Missouri during the night.
If you are wanting to dress like a bushwhacker I suggest working man clothing. If you’re looking to dress as a jayhawker I recommend a petticoat 😆

I would disagree about Lawrence.
But asking if op was interested in Bleeding Kansas or Bushwhakers of tge Ozarks area during the late unpleasantness
I often wondered about the bushwakers shirt. Handy when in a large group, small raids it would give you away as soon as seen

First, the Lawrence raid was in direct retaliation for the kansans burning Osceola, Mo., undermining a jail that held women (some just girls) which killed and maimed most of them and robbing, murdering and pillaging Missouri. Jim Lane said he had grown stoop shouldered from carrying loot out of Missouri.
There was a death list for that town and it was not just a bloody 'massacre'. Look at Peterson's book "Quantrill in Lawrence".
For good descriptions, read "Babe of the Company", "Noted Guerillas".
I would contact Jean Warren at James Country Mercantile in Liberty.
Deo Vindice,
David
