Bet them cost more than the problem child.lol
Oh yeah ! She was a pain in the arse and wallet like every other woman I've known ....and she had the words " want " and " need " confused too , as per usual . She would bed down with any buck that came her way as well so .... I'll stick with the troublesome trade guns , every time. Much less heart ache. :)

I talked with gunbuilder Ken Netting last night ....we talked about a little of everything and my slow forgetful mind actually remembered to ask him about this frizzen issue . He kept going back to trying yo fit another frizzen to the lock instead of half soling it . I finally asked him if he had ever half soled a frizzen before , he said no ! I can't believe he has never done it before ! Out of over 600 guns he has built never half soled a frizzen . Crazy .....

I can see why, it would be much easier just buy a frizzen made of proper steel and grind it to fit your problem child, and it would be a lot more reliable. they don't sell casenit any more, there there is another product just like it available, I can grab the bottle and get its name if you want.

Well .... shiite ....I've hardened it twice and the file still cuts into the high carbon steel . ...and I have no idea why it would do this . I never took it above temp to burn out the carbon . Frustrating ....to say the least . Not sure what to do with this frizzen as if it will not harden it is useless to me and I'll have to go with my back up plan but ....there is absolutely no reason for this not to work . Oh well .....

So now you can say......"been there, done that, got the T-shirt...."

I'm sorry Rob, i had to say it. Hang in there, you will tame the beast sooner or later.

On some steel (knives) I have made there is a layer of decarbed scale that has to be removed to get to the hard steel. That probably isn’t the case here, but I am trying to offer some hope! The worst case would be if the file was one of the new ones that isn’t made from high carbon steel.
