What’s the going price for a pair like that? Those are real nice.
It depends on the type of leather used, the pair you're looking at are made of Buffalo hide which is a little cheaper then elk or deer and the cost of these was 225.00. Elk and or deer will run upwards of 300.00 because it cost about 1/3 more than the buffalo leather. When you get into brain tanned leather it gets real pricey.

The actual process of making a pair of leather pants is about the same with any leather. It takes about 20 to 25 hours to complete a pair (all hand sewn) and honestly cutting the fringe is the most time consuming. the pair in the photos has a total of 80 inches of fringe all cut by hand.
There are times when I've used deer hide which is pretty light weight a welt might be necessary in the butt and crouch so the thread doesn't pull loose.

The only thing you really need to bare in mind when laying out the pattern is which way you want it to stretch. All hides have more stretch, top to bottom then stem to stern. Basically you want stretch in the thigh area and the butt and crouch area, when you squat down that's were it needs to give.

I have another member here who wants a pair and if you guys would like I'll do a more complete photo shoot of the process including pattern layout on the leather to give an idea of the process.

I had a pair made by an Indian lady back in the 70's in the way of a long hunter. They had the fly a little different in that it was cut at an angle towards the opposite side and the legs were cut to fit the legs with the bottom falling over the moccasins, no fringe! They were great for hunting, walk through briars and clean them off!

I've seen that style before and I've seen them made like fall-front breeches. I just settled on a pattern that is easily repeatable.
I could do the lower legs of these like the gaitered style you're talking about but generally don't just because the lower part of the leg just wears out too quickly.

Either way they are great hunting pants, nice to know someone makes them. Good for you!
