Question for the forum about Brown Bess Musket Barrel Tangs.

In consideration for a building a short land model Brown Bess Circa 1777/79 Shortland musket.

I was able to disable a few third model muskets to view the shape and thickness of the barrel tangs, most were the later models. The tangs were mostly beefy, pretty thick and chunky.

In Goldstein’s book, the pattern 1756 musket tang looks pretty thinned down, and tappered toward the tang carving.

If anyone has disassembled an original shortland.

How thick should a second model tang be? Was there a taper?

Thanks !
