Greetings, Got my hands on a 1700 Blunderbuss thats been in the family for decades. I would like to make go "Boom", dad said he shot it back in the 50's. Put in a new flint but no spark. Don't want to mess up the original frizzen trying to harden it, most posts say thats the problem. Are the after market replacement frizzens all pretty much the same ?

Sweet it maybe . Date more 1810 at least but I think it unwise to shoot old Brass barrels as some of it ages greatly . People often think Oh a Blunderbuss you can load anything . nails pebbles ect & you might once 'But a hand full of 30 cal balls are much more likley historic loadings and even then some risk is possible after all the years . I hate to sound gloomy. but is your head .

turn the flint over and polish the frizzen face.
clean the lock and be sure the mainspring has enough force to drive the flint sufficiently.
check the frizzen spring for tension
a longer flint will help also
Thanks, will give em a try when back in town.
