For barking squirrels, right?

But really, guns like these were more objects of intimidation and prestige than workaday artillery. Note that this gun was only fired once, and never hit anything. There's a similar one in Moscow called the Tsar's Cannon. Evidence is that it was also fired only once.

That's because the gunner who fired it was killed by the concussion before he could jump into the water tank alongside, to avoid the massive shock wave. I don't think sight alignment was high on his priorities.

I wonder if a very early "deterrent" would have worked...you make ONE of those, and say 7 more out of wood, sanded, and painted to look like the working model, so you have a pair of those "canons" for each of the four walls of your fortress, and then let the enemy see you shoot the real one, and they assume the rest are working too.

:rotf: :hatsoff:

I thought, "Would bring a whole new dimension to treeing Coons." (Raccoons of course.) Then I thought aim at the very base of the tree and you get plenty of busted up firewood from a large part of the forest along with your concussion mooshed squirrel.

Puts a whole new look at " Mine's bigger than yours"
Would actually leave you with an inferiority complex.
I would want a 4' fuse to touch that sucker off.
It would certainly loosen any ear wax that you may have.

When I gazed upon the USS Alabamas 16" Mark 6's my jaw dropped, this is just in a league of its own! When I participated in my last reenactment, it was the first time I ever had a 6" field cannon in play, certainly intimidating but this monster... unbelievable!

Also, there's no possible way the firing team could stand by when firing, wouldn't the shockwave from the blast literally destroy their insides? :idunno:

I wonder how long it would take a old fashioned black powder fuse to fire this cannon if the fuse was 1/2 mile long?
