It's most likely an inspector's mark. Means to me little more than the barrel passed inspection and was ready for the next step. This question comes up a lot and there is no real answer.

I have a Sharon stamped barrel of the 1970's. There is no Maltese cross stamping (or any other assembly stamping). My barrel was not made for T/C as the twist is 1 in 72 inches.
