I've been using a Ballistol and water mix of 5 parts ballistol to 1 part water. I've soaked my .020 1-1/4" strips in the mixture and rolled them up into a film container. Do these strips need drying before use or could I get away with using them damp as I would with a spit patch? has anyone tried this?

Just remember that the solution will weaken the cloth if stored over time , so only "wet down" what you will use with in a month or so.

The entire concept behind the "dry lube" system is to dry the mixture leaving just the oil in the fabric as the lube.
If you leave it wet, it's just a wet patch, in affect just another spit patch.
The key is to dry the wet fabric while lying flat on a nonporous surface like plastic, foil or on a cookie sheet.
If you "hang' the fabric to dry,, the mix will travel down the strip as it dry's.
