I have a repo 1863 Remington contract rifle built by Armi Jager in 1976. Its a .58 with 1 in 24 twist rifling. All I have read about these rifles from various makers have slow twist rifling. Is this a rare thing?

You sure it's 1:24 ? I believe 1:48 , 1:66 or 1:72 was the norm. Is it marked 1:24?

Not marked, checked it myself after I traded for it about 10 years ago. Been shooting and cobbling muzzleloaders for over 50 years. Great mini shooter. Thought about turning it into a canoe gun this winter so I did some research, everyone seems to have slow twist rifling in theirs. Makes me curious.

Mostly shoot around my place out in the hills anymore. Down to the left eye and it can't see the front sight on my .40 flint longrifle anymore. Thought about getting a short trade fowler in .58 smooth, but they are beyond my military pension. The 63 Remington has been a closet queen for 10 years, so I thought about giving it a makeover.

Depending on condition, those 63 Remmy's/Zouaves are 450 bucks all day long.
