I have been busy the past few weekends (primarily scouting), but I finally started back on the project today. I took a series of rasps to the stock to begin rough shaping the butt stock.

Next, I clamped to the bench and went at it with a file in order to thin the stock down (width). After A LOT of effort, I remembered that I know a few friends with bench-mount belt sanders :shake:

Now, remember in the beginning I said that I would show you any mistakes I make...well, I got too enthusiastic with the rasp and took a big divot out of the stock. I decided to fix it by gluing some thin scraps of cherry in the damaged area. Now I have to wait a few days for the glue to cure, and I'll file and sand away. I figure that since the stock will be stained/painted green to match the original, I'll be able to hide this error.

Here's a photo of the clamped and glued stock:

Has anyone else started in on this project?..if so, let us know. :v

I forgot to add...I'll post pictures of the "patch" before and after, and also of the further shaping of the stock, hopefully later this week. :v
