The builder sends updates. I will not ask when it will be ready. It will be ready when it's ready, but if I'm guessing...this summer, a three-year wait. I'll go get it. sight it in, and spend a few weeks shooting it with the builder, learn how to clean and maintain it, find the nearest outdoor firing range to my house and go.

He likes inlays; a hand-carved double headed eagle in German silver with laurels. The only things he does not fab are the firing mechanism and barrel. He blues the barrel.

Builder loves to carve and add silver inlays. He asked what design I wanted. I asked for his free form whatever came to mind at the time. Design on the fly, using paper templates.

He's a friend. He offered, I accepted. 2 ½ years on a wait list, looks like 9 -10 months to build it.

I hope I do not seem to be bragging about it, but why keep it all to myself, right? These are only a fraction of the photos he sends. I'll be able to make a book out of them when it's finished.

I can appreciate the wait and your anticipation! Currently waiting to hear if my .58 Lehigh barrel is in and work on gun is started! Won't be as ornate as yours, I'm more of a less is more kind of guy but can appreciate the work and beauty of those kind of guns.

@Thingamajiggy, When he asked what I wanted, I asked for a functional flintlock rifle that I could go target shooting with. He took me shooting the summer of '19 when I was visiting family and that was all it took for me to want one. Anticipation is high for sure. I had a build space but had to relinquish it, lost a year. He is building it how he wants to build it and I have no say, which is perfectly fine by me. I do not know where he gets his inspiration, he's an artist. I think he is building a museum quality authentic long rifle that will surely last several generations of my family. It's amazing how this rifle started as the trunk of a curly maple tree. BTW, I'm on a five year wait list for a pistol.

I agree with Mike, stuff could have been done differently. If you like it that is what matters.
