Well this has never happened to me but it is still a life saving piece of information to have any way ..

Having just dropped my landline and am now Cell phone only I had read previously that Cell Phones and 911 were not always friendly and did not necessarily work

But it is getting better and most major carriers WILL forward (at the minimum) the 911 call to the designated emergency services for the tower location your phone is on.. and in my case it was the County Sheriff Department who would then trickle it down to the lowest level for your address of emergency ..in my case as I live in a rural area the district Fire Department would be dispatched as well as the county Ambulance Service if it were a medical emergency ..but always the Fire Department first no matter what as they will 99 times out of 100 be far closer than Ambulance Service as well...additionally the Firefighter are normally well trained on the medical side as well

Even if you have a land line ...know what capabilities your cell phone and cell phone service provider are capable of delivering when 911 is needed for real !!!!!

From a cellphone
be prepared to give an exact street/highway address, w/town, type of emergency, your name ..calmly ...understand at this point you are only a phone number on a computer screen as opposed to a landline call that will all ready have you name and exact address on the screen

Just saying ..Have the .KNOW HOW before the NEED

You could have left the Wadding part out and just talked about cell phone use in a 911 fire emergency.

Instead of leading the reader to believe you started an accidental fire with your wadding.

As accidental fires pertain to smoking, camping and lightning strikes too.

P.S. It's Fireman/Firemen.

Not Fire Person/Fire Persons.

Agreed and I was not trying to assert I started a wadding fire however this is an important issue and as this forum has no "catch-all" discussion forum other than for supporting members ..and it is required as I understand .. that any topic must pertain to our sport .. so I tied this important heads up to muzzle loading for all forum members

I did alter the term to fire personnel as there are women folk who do a good job

Firefighting personal I know prefere “firefighter” to fireman. A fireman is a person who tended boilers in a locomotive or a fixed boiler room.
For what it’s worth.

Decades ago, one of my other jobs (FF’s ALWAYS have at least 2 side gigs 😂 ) was at a Radio Shack when cell phones were just taking off. At that time all 911 calls went to the nearest state police post as cell service spread from cities along highways. I always advised customers to ask for their nearest city/county dispatch center.

At a Texas Army battle reenactment in Gonzales, a wad (apparently) started a small grass fire. The shooter ran out and stomped on the flames, and they squirted out all over the place, like when you stomp on a puddle of water!
More Army folks poured canteens and stomped on the fire, with similar results. As the fire circle increased to about 20' wide, we called on the spectators, and they responded with water bottles, and saved the day!

The irony was that we had just had a parade with Fire Trucks from all over the county, but none of them were at the battle.

The Come and Take It Festival in Gonzales is a great time, and the whole town comes out for the music, food, and games. And for the battle.
It's a beautiful little town, and you should visit it sometime.

Thanks for the heads up. Many people have no idea how dry it is in some states and how fast a small fire can spread. Not to mention the damage it can do. Just one of the fires I darn near got killed flying on started by a puckup truck pulling a trailer that had a safety chain barely touching the pavement.

If nearly all FFs have at least two other jobs, doesn't that imply that being a firefighter is really just a part time job with benefits? 🧑‍🚒
