My father built these in the 70's. 1 inch bore, barrels are about 24", he made the carriages/wheels as well.
They have been fired a lot.
We lived in town when he first built them. We shot them in the yard with paper. Put them away in a hurry and sat on the porch like nothing happened when the police rolled up. The cloud of smoke and newspaper in the yard gave it away....

Thanks for the comments. He worked at Proto Tool Co. as a die maker, I am pretty sure they are some type of tool steel. Very talented wood worker as well.
