what are the differences between the 1858 New Army Texas .44 Caliber Revolver vs 1851 Confederate Navy .44 Caliber Revolver?

The New Army Texas is a brass framed Remington (which was never made back in the 1860's) and the 1851 Confederate Navy .44 is a brass framed Colt style pistol (which was also never made back in the 1860's).

Unless there is a real good financial reason for buying a brass framed cap and ball pistol I wouldn't recommend either one.

If you can find a steel framed reproduction at a slightly higher price you would be better served to get it instead of one of these pistols.

While brass framed guns are shootable most of us will strongly suggest that they should be shot with fairly light powder loads.

It is not that the cylinder or barrel is dangerous with higher powder loads but the brass frames have been known to loosen up to the point that the gun becomes unshootable.

Hit up gun shows. There are usually good deals. I got my first revolver, a 1974 Euroarms steel framed 1851 Navy for $80. At the same show there was also a barely used Pietta brass 1858 New Army for $80, with the seller indicating he would negotiate.

What's your price range anyway? Right now Cabelas has $20 off on a purchase of $150 or higher. Dixie Gunworks has some steel frame guns discounted.

Check out Cabelas web site. They still have a variety of steal frame BP, Colt and Rem. both for $199.99. Get two
