Need the proper lock for a new build. (I realize the Rifle Shoppe has castings and assembled locks, but they require eons to fill an order, LOL!)

Hi Carp,
Check with Leonard Day (I think he has a web site). I believe he has assembled doglocks for sale.

Update: I checked. Leonard Day does not have a web site but his phone is 413-527-9627.

If you can even get them to answer the phone, return call or reply to email. I have tried for 2 weeks, no response. Are they still in business?

The gunmaker's lock kit is just a Siler or delux Siler with a square plate, and is going to be pretty small...You could use the internals on a largely scratchbuilt lock, though. I think most of those doglocks had no internal bridle (or were even actually type 2 English locks with a lateral sear rather than true flintlock), but since no one is going to see the inside you could include the bridle if you wanted.

Sad thing is, there just isn't much in the way of musket-sized locks available commercially, and if you want one you have to either put up with the Rifle Shoppe (whose parts aren't even necessarily useable), use one of the handful of locks/parts sets available elsewhere (Track of the Wolf, J. Brooks, Indian-or Italian-made spares), or make your own.

I had a circular from Leonard Day and he sells several completed locks. I can't find it right now and I don't remember what the locks were but I wouldn't be surprised to find that he has what you need.
