    .50 Dixie Tennessee

I just bought what I believe to be a caplock Dixie Mountain Rifle. However mine has a .40 caliber Green Mountain barrel. Did all these rifles sport GM barrels or should I assume mine is a replacement barrel? There are no specific markings on the gun indicating it came from Dixie Gunworks.

Thanks for the explanation. I'm having difficulty visualizing it so will need to search the local auto parts store for one. :)

    Second pawn shop find

I'll show my ignorance ..... what is a grease gun's "pointed fitting"? Does it replace a caplock's nipple or fit onto it somehow?

    buyer beware

It's not uncommon to find muzzle loading guns sold with charges still in them. I purchased a T/C Renegade several years ago for the giveaway price of $100.00. It was in great condition. Found it was loaded after bringing it home. Took two caps to set off the charge in a back pasture. Also bought...

Cap and Ball Revolvers vs Ballistic Gel

Have a Remington New Army .44, a Colt 1860 Army and a 3rd Model Dragoon. I enjoy the .44s in all stripes. Might run into you one day at the Lafourche range. :) Regards, Cleburne

Shipping Muzzle Loaders to New York

Can anyone tell me if it's legal to ship a cap & ball revolver to a buyer in New York? At this point in our communication I'm not sure if the buyer's in New York City or in another part of the state. I'd hoping to sell an 1851 Navy repro, but certainly don't want to break any laws.

    Nutria ball bag shedding

"What we can not talk about are naugies and their hides since they are an endangered species(if not already extinct)." Must confess my dear old dad contributed to the naugies' demise. He had a very comfortable recliner made from naugahide. Please don't hold it again' him, he didn't know no better.

    Longstreets Sidearm?

Don't know about Old Pete, but I recall reading several years ago that Marse Robert kept an 1851 Colt Navy. Cleburne

Smollett, Please tell us how you accomplished the tiger striping. It looks awesome. I might have to give it a try on one of my Renegades. Thanks, Cleburne

    Smoke Rings

I can't explain why, but it's not been uncommon to get an occassional smoke ring when firing my .44 cal Remington New Army. Brings "oouu's" and "ahhhh's" at cowboy matches. :) I've seen 'em too at Civil War re-enactments from artillery pieces. Very special.

    What to use for lube

"I use white lithium grease on the arbor/cylinder pin..." +1 Also use this as a lube over the top of each chamber after ramming my round balls home. Never ever a problem and clean up is no more difficult than when using any other lube.

Initial thoughts on my new Pietta 1858

Choctaw, I've enjoyed my '58 Pietta/Remington .44 for maybe twenty years. I got mine from Cabela's also(mail order), it was on sale for just under one hundred Yankee greenbacks. :) Was also pleasantly surprised by its accuracy when I benched it on paper. Used it during my cowboy action shooting...
