    Lyman GPR Kit

Thank you for all of the replies, I will be sure to keep you posted when I acquire my kit. Right now a vet bill has set me back a few months! Will continue to read, and enjoy others experiences.

    Lyman GPR Kit

Thank you one and all, hoping to have enough put by near Christmas to splurge and pick one up! Definitely want the kit! While I have never attempted anything like it, I do want the connection, just like my reloading, I like to be a bigger part of the equation. Dave

    Lyman GPR Kit

I have been looking, but I really think this time around I want to build one, have more connection with the rifle.

    Lyman GPR Kit

I have posted here in the past, but have been without a smoke pole for about a year or so now. Looking to change that, really want to buy a Lyman GPR Kit and have a go at it, shocked at the amount of scratch required, but that is the lay of the land these days. I will be reading, and learning...

    Looking at Flintlocks

Thank you for the inputs, this will not be a rushed decision, and I am thinking for a first build my budget will be $600 or less.

    T/C Hawken Rebarrel.

Got some good news on the phone, called this outfit and just missed their last slow twist 50 cal barrel, but was informed that Green Mountain is expanding their production facility and barrels should be available around January. http://www.longrifles-pr.com/gminterbarrels.shtml These folks are...

    Looking at Flintlocks

I have been looking at flintlock rifles and smoothbores. I am currently shooting a T/C Hawken in 50 cal. I am really interested in a kit, problem is I don't want to go too expensive in case I screw it up, and I am torn between sticking with the 50 cal or going to a 54. I am currently casting...

    latest shoot cva hawken 50

Well, I am pushing a 420gr bullet at 1900fps from a 7 1/2# Ruger #1, that tends to get my attention. I don't have a mold for anything bigger than the 370gr Maxi, or I would give it a go. Right now the Hawken is my fun gun, the others are more like tools to get a job done.

    latest shoot cva hawken 50

One of the reasons I would like to stick with PRB, I like to have fun while shooting, and will be the first to admit that I don't care for recoil like I used to. For me though, the Maxi just seems to shoot the best.

    latest shoot cva hawken 50

I don't notice a big jump in recoil between the RB and the Maxi, in my defense, I was shooting my 300 Win Mag and my 45/70 as well, the Hawken is a pussycat comparatively speaking.

    latest shoot cva hawken 50

I have been getting some great results from my T/C Hawken with the 370gr Maxi, they ring my steel plate with authority. I cast them out of pure lead, and the Lyman mold likes to be very hot in order to give good bullets. I tried adding just a wee bit of tin in the past, but it made them grow a...

Absolutely, had my fair share of dealings, both good and bad.

    T/C Hawken Rebarrel.

I did, but I am a patient man, and they turn up on eBay and Gunbroker from time to time.

http://www.gmriflebarrel.com/hawkenrenegadestylerifles/1516-interchangeablebarrels This is the one I'm looking at. I will keep my pitted barrel for shooting Maxi Balls.

I use a dipper when casting RB or Maxi Ball, seems to work better with the pure lead. I use my bottom pour when casting for centerfire handgun and rifle, the tin and antimony in the mix makes for a better fill.

    Hawken Facts

Mine was built for my Dad in the early 70's, he gave it to me when I retired from the Air Force in 2006, it was in rough shape, but I have got it shooting decent with PRB, and the furniture has much of the tarnish cleaned up, the bore is a work in progress, but it has killed jackrabbits at 75...

    Hawken Facts

Great reading, I always learn something new. I know my "Hawken" from TC isn't a real Hawken, but I love it anyway, even if it does have brass furniture. Dave

    Hawken keeps getting better

Picked up a Maxi-Ball mould from ebay for $26, looks like it was never used. Cast up some bullets, will see how they shoot as opposed to the commercial ones I have been shooting. Next is a good RB mould for a .490 ball. Dave
