    Custom ball mould

I'M BACK!...Any one know of a craftsman who can make a ball mould for a 100 caliber wall gun?

    Barrel fit on Chambers Kit?

I wouldn't expect a pre-carve stock to accept a barrel right out of the box. I use barrel inleting scrapers followed by small hardwood blocks wrapped in sandpaper.

Looking for someone to finish up a project for me.

I have to ask, since you say that you just don't have the time. Are you in a hurry to have this thing finished, or do you just have a hard time devoting the time to it? I have projects in my shop that have been ongoing for years and I've learned to live with that although it also drives me nuts...

    How many builders hunt?

There are few things more rewarding than taking a rifle that you've built yourself into the field. Even more so if you've got a stash of ammo that you've cast yourself from old lead scrap. I also fly fish and would compare it to fishing with flies that you've tied yourself...just plain good...

    Flint's Frolick

Man, that looks like a fun group of good folk! And only a stone's throw from some of the world's best fishing in the Green River's flaming gorge! Beautiful part of this planet. Thanks for sharing...I'll keep watching my mailbox for next year's invitation...

If you're looking for a fine example, I fell in love with Roy's Poser the first time a saw the photos...exceptional craftsmanship.

    The Crossing

Great movie! I bought the DVD before it gets lost to the ages. The idea with the candle wax is to seal the pan from rain or snow. I've never tried it myself. I get nervous about an open flame and powder... In his memoirs, Joseph Plumb Martin tells about sleeping out in the rain in a fetal...

    Build along: S.Mtn.Rifle: Inletting lockplate

MeteorMan, You're probably starting to realize that if you ask this Forum, "What time is it?" 30 members will tell you their version of how to build a clock :haha: ...That's one of the reasons I love it here. In my opinion, :surrender: your fitting skills are outstanding, and I wouldn't lose...

    Build along: S.Mtn.Rifle: Inletting lockplate

I have to ask; Has anyone experienced their barrel "riding up" out of the stock at the tang area due to a beveled breech plug rib? The only steps I've taken to reduce any problems with recoil is to elongate the holes in the barrels lugs for the pins to avoid forearm cracks. Right or wrong, I...

    Build along: S.Mtn.Rifle: Inletting lockplate

Ditto; I never gave any thought to having the breech plug hard up against wood. I aim for a snug fit at the back of the barrel.

    Pistol before Longgun?

Welcome! It seems that you have the mechanical skills under your belt, and you,re on the right track with the books you've ordered. With a MZ rifle or pistol you will be exposed to alot of woodworking as well as metal work, not so much an "assembly" process. My personal opinion is that rifles...

    Stock Shaper's Lament

That being said; Myself, (not owning a bandsaw), I would start by roughing out the stock with a jig saw, not too close to the final shape, just removing the bulk of the excess material. I'd continue with a draw knife, heavy rasps, fine rasps, etc. Merlinrod made an excellent point...

    Stock Shaper's Lament

I think it comes down to whatever one has available and feels most comfortable using. A bandsaw would be fine, if you don't have one, a hand saw, or even a jig saw for that matter. :idunno:

    Stock Shaper's Lament

A very famous furniture maker was once asked' "How do you make such beautiful chairs?" The reply was, "Simple, I start with a tree and remove everything that doesn't look like a chair." You sound like you have the right attitude and I sense confidence down in there. I would exhaust all of your...

    Upper East Tennessee Rifle #134

Wow! The grain in the butt section couldn't be more perfect! You need to hang on to that one. I also really like the Bird Dog hallmark on the rear end of the lock plate!

    Early Lancaster Finished

That's a sweety! Nice work! Tru-oil is great stuff, but I also find it too glossy. I'll let it cure for a while and then gently rub the stock down with #0000 steel wool and plain ol' Johnson floor wax... knocks down the shine a little.

Need help, pleas, for a Vent plug

I'm sure that others will chime in, but if a vent hole liner is not available for that specific barrel, maybe it can be re-drilled and tapped to accept a "white lightning" liner? I'm not sure off hand if 10mm is already too big... :hmm:
