    Which nipple?

In my 4-H shooting sports program we shoot 5 or 6 different guns including Lyman Great Plains Rifle, TC New Englanders and some assorted CVAs. I need to buy replacement nipples for the next season. I'm leaning toward Hot Shot nipples that have the horizontal hole drilled at the top. Have had...

    Triple Seven any good?

I love Triple 7. I shoot a lot and teach muzzle loading to scouts, 4-H and the public. This last week we put 400 rounds down range using TC New Englanders and a Lyman Great Plains Rifle. I started using Pyrodex Select which is 2ffg, and the flow was too slow in our brass flasks. I ran some...

    Triple Seven any good?

I had an Arkansas buddy that used to shout "Who's Your Daddy! when he spanked the breech. :rotf: But seriously folks it works. Before I shoot I always pop 2 caps to clean any moisture or oil out of the flash channel. It's always worked for me. gus

    Cabela's .50 cal Hawken

Does anyone know the nipple threads for a 1970's Cabela's 50 caliber Hawken? I think its 6mmx.75, but want to be sure before I try to clean up the threads with a tap. Thanks! gus FL 4-H Shooting Sports

    Cap sticking in hammer?

At 4-H Shooting Sports camp we shot ~300 rounds thru 3 TC New Englanders, and the caps stuck when the hammer cup got fouled. Cleaning it GOOD helped most, then add a dab of Rem Oil on the inside with a Q-tip. One tool I want to try though is a cartridge reloaders primer pocket brush, meant for...

Anybody in the Orlando, FL area???

Sorry I missed you Horsetrader. I was away for a while at 4-H camp, back now. We shoot several times a month in Mims, and occasionally I make it up to Ocala. As a matter of fact, I need to go up that way soon. Keep in touch. gus

    Sillywet Question

Wow, what great info. all. Did the data above come from the NMLRA Rule Book? I've searched and search to no avail until this thread. I've got a set of silhouettes that are no where near any official size by anyones standards. By far the best reference I've found online is at the...

    Sillywet Question

Hey folks, looking for threads and info. on silhouette shooting, specifically target size - full scale, half scale or what? There are some nice sites out there on how to build and where to buy, BUT what size do WE use for muzzleloading rifles and smoothies - choices being large bore rifle...

    Side Lock questions

Great info guys, and that's why I love (and joined) this forum. I searched the web for an hour and didn't get half this info. What's the history of this gun? Since its a caplock, and to my recollection the first caplock came out about 1840(ish), this had to be develped after, and by whom?

    Side Lock questions

Yes, the hammer is on the side, does somewhat resemble an ear or more like a flattened spoon. I'm pretty sure it does not have a half-cock. I'm torked now I didn't look at it longer, but I had to leave the store. One of the things that really appeals to me about this gun, is that I teach Jr...

    Side Lock questions

Ok fellas and ladies, I need some help with a gun I saw today. It was a Navy Arms side lock in 36 caliber. Anybody know it?? I didn't just fall off the turnip truck, but I don't know Jack about side locks. I searched the forum here and hit a blank. Can someone help? Is it also called a...

    Flintlock Gun Cases?

I really like the canvas duck gun cases I get at Buffalo Bills Shooting Store in Orlando for about $12. http://www.buffalobillsshootingstore.com/index.html

    Nipple Pick

Flint or cap lock, I don't know where I'd be without my endless supply of paper clips, large for the flinter, small for the cap.

What Good to carry pre weighed BP in?..

Every gun shop I go in, and sometimes the mega-Marts have speedloaders on sale. I like those. I also just started to use old brass cases, cut down with a pipe tubing cutter. I happen to have some 7mm Mag, .270 and .30-06 and they all work fine.

Source of longrifle range rods and cleaning rods

For my Charleville, I needed one right away so I ended up buying 2 brass rods at WalMart and using a section of one with the other to extend it. It works great, and when I'm shooting my other guns I have the 2nd rod.
