    Handguns topics

I thought this was "The Muzzleloading Forum." Why are so many threads going way off-topic and discussing cartridge conversions that have nothing to do with OP's questions. I ask a question relative to a topic and it's just run over by the cartridge boys. Doesn't seem like there's any...

Appropriate cylinder gap for Colt revolvers

Message to 45D: I recently purchased a Uberti Paterson, manufactured in 1999, in like-new condition. I do not intend to fire it. I noticed that the wedge is loose - I can push it out, or completely in, with just finger pressure. I also note that the blueing is scraped off on one part of the...

    Log Cabin Shop A+++

One of those great businesses - like Dixon's - that have been around forever because of their products and service. I used to live in Eastern PA and spent a lot of time (and money) at Dixon's.

Pietta 1851 navy colt hammer issue. Help!!!

I know. I've used one for years and have different spout lengths, but would never load that charge into a recently fired cylinder. It's odd that people are so paranoid about filling revolver chambers with grease after loading a tight-fitting ball in order to prevent a chain fire, but would trust...

Pietta 1851 navy colt hammer issue. Help!!!

That guy's shooting videos would give me the willies when he would show himself pouring powder into the chambers directly from the flask. That's a muzzleloading 101 error. He also had one where he showed that a Colt's wedge screw had to be removed before pulling the wedge from the arbor.

    Colt Dragoon Light Hammer Strike?

I don't think he was joking. Putting something on the face of the cap and/or the face of the hammer will leave a mark (or remove a mark) when you fire the gun. This will tell you how the hammer is striking so, if you decide to file, you don't make things worse. That's how I interpret his...

    NGD: Colt Dragoon

I took the barrel off my Navy, removed the cylinder and greased the arbor. I added some antique (3 in 1) oil around the moving parts and put it back together. Everything worked nice & slick. Here's a quickie of the Navy. I'm gonna set that up again and use a real camera rather than a cellphone.

Where the Heck?? Colt 1860 Part?

It's a standard Circlip or snap washer. Never saw one on any of my Ubertis.

    Kibler smoothbores

Very nicely done. The color looks like cherry. I really like the restrained carving. The lines of the gun are so nice that it doesn't need a lot of embellishment. Jim's rifles are all like that. Just superb proportions - very gifted guy, and great kits. Wish he'd make a lefty for us sinister types.

    1860 Colt vs. 1858 Remington

I normally fire 30 gr. FFG and hardly notice recoil.

    1860 Colt vs. 1858 Remington

No. The lubed wad is plenty and should help keep the bore clean. I find that grease just gets all over everything. Do disassemble the barrel and grease (not oil) the arbor. When you replace the wedge don't drive it in any further than necessary. If the cylinder won't rotate because it's rubbing...

    1860 Colt vs. 1858 Remington

The Army has a round barrel too. That should help.

    1860 Colt vs. 1858 Remington

Nice. My box looked exactly the same. I'd include a photo but there's a cat on the table. I was surprised to find that the 1851 is a little more muzzle-heavy than the Army.

    Uberti 1851 Navy

I received a new Uberti 1851 Navy (London) today. I'm familiar with the 1860 Army and the Walker but what is the recommended ball size and load for the Navy?

    1860 Colt vs. 1858 Remington

Got my "London" 1851 Uberti today. Very happy with the quality. I may take it out and shoot it soon. Hope your 1860 is just as nice!

    1860 Colt vs. 1858 Remington

Good grief, this thread has really gone off-topic. The OP bought his revolver. Time to lock this one up.

    1860 Colt vs. 1858 Remington

My 1860 is a Cimmaron (made by Uberti). I use .454 balls I buy from Track of the Wolf. My normal load is 30gr. 3F, lubed felt wad (also from TOTW), and the ball. It shaves a nice little circle of lead when seated. It's pretty accurate if you learn to hold low, and hits the target with a...

    1860 Colt vs. 1858 Remington

Check Gunbroker and Midway for Uberti. However, Cimmaron revolvers are made by Uberti - just different badging, and goofy juxtaposition of the Colt name (Cotl). Looks like Midway just got a shipment of Uberti revolvers - good prices too. I ordered a London model '51 Navy yesterday.

    1860 Colt vs. 1858 Remington

It's been fun following this thread. I owned both the '58 Remington and the '60 Colt (still do). I have a Uberti 1851 Navy (London model) on order. I compare this discussion to the ongoing one about which WWII bomber was better - the B-17 or the B-24. The 24 flew higher, carried more, and was...
