    At the Range w/My Son

Got out to the range with my 10 year old son. He was shooting my Pietta Colt Navy. All shots seated from 25 yards using 14 grains of Goex 3F and .376 round ball -- inside my homemade cartridges. Link Link2

    Range report - Colt Walker

I was able to get to the range this afternoon for a little bit and made a lot of smoke with my Uberti Colt Walker. All shots were from 25 yards, standing (see target below). I used 50 grains of Goex 3F with a special lubed conical made by Kaido Ojaama. Any variations were due to my changing the...

Handmade cartridges for my Pietta Colt Navy

Took my 9 yr old son to the range today to have him shoot my Pietta 1851 Colt Navy using my homemade cartridges. He fired 42 rounds with no misfires! The cartridges worked great. The few early ones I made were a little "chubby" and did not fit well (too big). But most of them fit perfectly and...

    Took my son shooting today

Took my son back to the range this afternoon. Today he was shooting my Pietta 1851 Colt Navy. He did really well (see shot below). All shots were from 25 yards, sitting down. For him I used 15 grains of Goex FFFG, wonder wad and a .376 round ball. I think he's hooked!! Link

Today I took my 9 year old son and his friend shooting today. They shot my Colt Navy Sheriff revolver. It was my son's second time shooting and his friend's first time. They did really well (see link to pic below - my son is on the right). All shots were from 25 yards, seated. For them I used...

Range Report for my Enfield rifle

I've had this gun for 5 years -- it was the first firearm I ever bought (I am relatively new to shooting). I purchased it brand new at Gettysburg for $445. It's an Armi Sport. I have been happy with it. At 25 and 50 yards it shoots high, but they were sighted in to shoot at 75 yards. This...

    Enfield or Zouave?

The 2-band Enfield was used in the Civil War, primarily by the Confederacy. In fact, Confederate sharpshooter Berry Benson's favorite weapon was a two-band Enfield ( link to story ).

Range Report for my Enfield rifle

Got out to the range early this morning with my Armi Sport 2-band Enfield rifle. Fired a number of shots -- all at 75 yards, seated. This is one of my targets (see link below) -- again at 75 yards. I used 55 to 60 grains of Goex FFG with a greased minie ball. Great way to start the day...

Finally got back to the range...

It's been more than six months since I've been to the range. I had some free time this morning and the weather was nice, so I spent an hour shooting my Pietta 1851 Colt Navy. I was very rusty but was able to at least get on paper. My load was 18 grains of Goex FFFG, wonder wad and .376 round...

    Conicals for Blackpowder revolvers?

I would like to try conical bullets in my Pietta 1851 Colt Navy, Pietta 1858 Remington and Uberti Colt Walker (all are steel framed). I just want to try the conicals and don't have the time or inclination to cast my own. I see that Buffalo Bullets is not in business. Any recommendations on...

How Long Can It Stay Loaded ?

Mykeal: Very interesting. That reminds of a story about one of Robert E. Lee's son. After Lee died in 1870, his son found one of Lee's Colt revolvers. It was loaded. According to the son, it had been that way for at least five years. All six chambers fired.
