    Second rifle build completed

Which kit is that Mah? I am contemplating my first build and I would be pleased as punch if I could do half as well as you did with that beauty! I would appreciate a follow up report on how you resolve the issues with the gun too. I hope that it's something silly and easily corrected!

Making A Front Sight For An 1860 Army Repro

I bought a Uberti 1860 Army repro last year and love it. I have a deadly accurate HK 45 USP that is a tack driver - and the soot burner will go head to head with it any day of the week. I am just pleased as punch about it! The only gripe I have is that it hits very, very high. At 25 paces I...

    Lastest Powder Horn Engraving Project

Thanks Rick, your work is always a treat! Ya know, the older I get, the more time I waste with my back against the tree the same way that young patriot on your horn does...I suppose he is just catching his breath but when I do it...I take root! :)

Do Any Of You Do Your Own Tanning?

What is involved? And is it worth it? It is going to cost me $300.00 to get a moose hide done. I took it to Halford Hides here in Edmonton Alberta. It is a combination tannery/crafts shop. At first I thought I was getting ripped off until I went around back to drop the hide off. My wife buys...

    Another Knife

You have to come up with an equally exquisite sheath for that Dave! Well? I'm waiting....patiently...

    Who has made a sporran?

You tell 'em Dog! By Godfrey, if you mess with a Scot you deserve what you get! Part of the reason they are so tough is the FOOD they eat! I still have nightmares of my childhood suppers with Grandma Filthie. I would rather have eaten thistles! Oh dear gawd...boiled cabbage...ulp...white navy...

    New Rifle, New Shooter

Yep, that young feller is off to a fine start! I dunno why but that pic brought back memories for me of Dad's guns back when I was a sprout (this would have been the Plasterscene Era or thereabouts...). Do you remember how big Dad was? And how he handled those huge guns like they were nothing...

    Finish For Ebony Or Rosewood?

I wonder what I have here. Lee Valley sold it as 'ebony' and it came in a hunk covered in wax. The fellas here said that they often do that but sell rosewood and call it 'ebony' when it really isn't. I started making a handle for a dirk last year with mosaic pins and skip line checkering and I...

    Finish For Ebony Or Rosewood?

What kind of wax would you use, Wick? I sanded it down to 600 grit and it doesn't look bad...will the colour change a bit do ya think?

    Finish For Ebony Or Rosewood?

I bought some mystery wood from Lee Valley that was supposed to be ebony but it may be rosewood - or so I am told. Can any of you recommend a good finish for those woods? Will linseed cut with paint thinner work?

    Copper kidney shaped canteen

Does copper get that same patina that brass does?

Big black leather bottle and dye-free too!

Well now the wife and I are having a fight of biblical proportions! She says the dye is basically ferric acid. I say no it's not - the vinegar is an acid that is neutralized by the steel wool and that the dye is some kind of aqueous oxident solution. Any high school students out there that can...

    Moose Antlers For Knife Handles?

I have seen elk and deer antlers used but never moose...have any of you guys done it?

    New bag for "Pox"

Friggin photobucket! I need a better view of that knife! What a great possibles bag. It's just the ticket: elegant, simple and functional.

What's The Learning Curve On Flinters?

Well that is good news. But I really want to build my first one and some of you fellers seem to have reservations about that. I know the GPR's and the spaghetti plains rifles are great and all...but the older I get, the more I want to make and do things myself. I am looking at the Isaac Haines...

What's The Learning Curve On Flinters?

Where I am there aren't alot of serious flintlock guys. I want to build a kit but once that's done I am on my own (except for you guys here). I like my cap gun because it goes bang EVERYTIME I pull the trigger. Can a newbie get that kind of reliability out of a flinter?

    Keep running into good deals.

Yep, that is my current ride too and I have been using it for years. Mine is made by Investarm I believe....54 cal. The only gripe I have is the 1:48 twist. It's a little to fast for round ball hunting loads,IMHO. I bought a Lee mold for doing 300 gr. REALs and it seems to work fine with those...
