FOR SALE Ithaca Hawken Rifle .50 Cal Unfired

Yes, I had originally thought of keeping it and having Bobby Hoyt drill it out to .54, but thought I really didn’t want to alter an original, not to mention the fact that the cost for his service has gone way up.

FOR SALE Ithaca Hawken Rifle .50 Cal Unfired

I have received a couple offers that were significantly below what I have this listed for, and while I appreciate the interest, something I’d like to point out is that these sold for $420 back in 1977, which adjusted for inflation in 2019 would be nearly $1800, and that’s without tax. Thanks to...

FOR SALE Ithaca Hawken Rifle .50 Cal Unfired

This rifle is in pristine, unfired condition. Serial number on underside of barrel is 325, which matches the number on the stock's barrel channel. I can't find a mark anywhere on it. Bore is excellent, shiny and new looking. Excellent fit and finish on this rifle. This is one of the original...

    Using TOTW Mink Oil?

I almost always lube up 20-30 patches of TOTW mink oil the night before I go shooting. Just one less step while I’m at the range.

    Who names their rifle?

The kind that has a crew.

    Who names their rifle?

No, in my opinion giving inanimate objects names, except for maybe a large boat, is silly.

    Unmentionables

I like them all, from flintlocks to AR’s. Enjoying a particular firearm is not mutually exclusive, though I like flintlocks the best. Though I don’t have one and have no desire to own one, even an inline has its place in shotgun only/straight-wall cartridges for deer hunting states.

Signature Series 1860 sold for $3025... What?

I’ve got a Colt 1860 2nd Generation that I bought NIB a few years ago for $600, if I recall correctly. I just have never gotten around to firing it yet. Good to know that it’s just a Uberti branded as a Colt because now I really intend on shooting it.

    How old are ya?

60 as of today. Started muzzleloading in 1977 with a .50 CVA Mountain Rifle. Wanted a GRRW Hawken in the worst way and never could afford one, and then they went out of business.

    T/c 54cal not grouping

When I found that my barrel had rusted after using bore butter for a few years I called T/C and spoke to a technician about the issue. He told me T/C knew it was basically garbage for protecting the bore, but they made a lot of money selling the stuff as a do-all and it was cheaper to replace...

    T/c 54cal not grouping

Take it from someone who fell for T/C’s line about using bore butter to “season” and “protect” your bore, don’t use it. My Hawken barrel got extremely rusty and inaccurate after using bore butter for a few years back in the 90’s and T/C replaced it. If you haven’t done so, drop a light down the...

What have you used for bore protection after shooting?

    Full cock in stand

I keep my Edward Marshall flintlock rifle on full cock while in a stand, as the hammer is quite loud when cocking. It lies across my lap and when I see a deer it’s just a matter of pulling the rear trigger to set the front trigger. However, I don’t walk around with it at full cock and instead...

Thompson Center Muzzleloaders Pros & Cons

I recall how the Hawkens from the 70’s and early 80’s had spectacular, highly figured walnut stocks. Pretty much all the ones from late 80’s on had very straight-grained wood, unless you got one of their limited run models, like the Silver Elite.
