    Mausers were built using an inch system of measurement. I've been unable to learn how Mauser's inch compares to the British inch. The metric system wasn't widely used in 1822. It was a french thang.. 1816 guns, I'm 99.9% certain, were built using an American inch.

    The brass punch idea came immediately to mind when reading post #1. Do it. I'd center the rear sight when testing then move the front sight, if needed, until you're hitting center.

    I have an Investarms/Cabela's .58, fully engraved in a non-cheesey style, I value at $700. It coms from the era when T/C was considered top dog and Investarms in second place. I can see how nowadays an engraved T/C might be valued at $700.
