    Recommendations for barrel cleaning

Well I have used some 0000 steel wool before dipped in some Ballistol, worked fine and got rid of the rust. As for basic after shootin cleaning, I just use some boiling hot water and ballistol, and a good swabber.Never had to use any brushes or anything, hot water and ballistol works great...

    54 or 58?

Dont own a .58, but I do own a Don Bruton made .54 flinter. Taken several doe with it here in SC. Never had to have a follow up shot, one shot-one kill. All but one dropped right where they were. They kicked around a little but that was about it. A .54 is plenty good. never been moose/elk...

    Issac Haines rifle?

Im not sure here, but most of the Isaac Haines style of rifles are made with the 37/38" barrel length. Or I should say most reproductions that are being built have that length barrel. Would it be historically permissable/correct for a IH type rifle to have longer barrels like 42-46". One more...

thoughts about adding sling to your rifle

I know its not very common, but historically speaking, how common was it to see rifles of the day with slings on them. I have been told that when a rifle had a sling on it, that is usually an indicator that it was used for military service. I dont beleive though that this is always the case...
