    .45 shooters what's the advantage over the 50 ?

I have .45, .50 & .54 that I've used on deer - mostly in PA & NY. The .45 has been the most ineffective deer killer of the three, for me. On my .45 kills, all my shots were chest shots and a lot of them pass thru. I've only lost one deer when shot with the .45 but all have travelled maybe up...

    GRANT

guess I have to disagree with this. My grandchildren are getting a better understanding of history than the white-washed version I received 55 yrs ago.

    what oil to use?

synthetic oils are regular petroleum that has been "cracked" - broken down into it's component elements. Then many of the impurities and carbon molecules and ash creating elements are washed away after which it is reconstructed with what other additives the company may want to add. It is...

    What Holsters Do You Use?

I made a couple of holsters for an 1858 Rem similar to those worn by Josie Wales. Strong side and cross-draw. Plus a small pouch to hold a couple extra cylinders and a small tin of caps.

    Carrying Horn and Bag Together?

I usually carrying powder horn and possibles bag separately but occasionally I want to put them together and sling only one strap over my shoulder. However, I haven't come up with a good way to easily attach horn to bag so it can be removed to use easily. Any of you folks do that and have...

    An Efficient Caliber

I love my 45 too but I have trouble with its effectiveness on deer. I've killed several deer with it and most have been one shot kills but not a single deer dropped before a 75 - 100 yd run and worse yet there were never blood trails until after 40 - 50 yds. My shots were good shots too, pass...

    Wedges fall out on GPR

Both front and rear wedges have a tendency to fall out on their own from my GPR. I haven't been able to figure out why they don't snap in firmly nor can I find a way to keep them in without falling out. Any ideas and suggestions?

    What would you do?

I have a .45 Pedersoli Pennsylvania Flintlock purchased around '94-'95. It's a fine firearm. It's small, light, accurate with the right load (1"@ 50 yds. open sights). Killed many deer. I did drill out and cone the touch hole but have never done anything else to it. I don't think you can go...

    hunting load ?

I shoot 80g FF in my 54 caliber and set my sights for 75 yds, that's my hunting limit. I've taken several deer with this load and with each kill I'm amazed at the damage it does. Nothing ever goes far after being hit. If you're shooting out to 100 yds, maybe the 90gr will help with a slightly...

Can I cut down a rifle barrel to make a pistol?

All I see on my barrel is CVA etc. etc. How are these Douglas barrels identified? This barrel came from one of the CVA Kentucky rifle kits of the early 70's. It shot well (accurately) but the rest of the rifle was a piece of manure.

Can I cut down a rifle barrel to make a pistol?

I have an old cva .45 rifle barrel sitting around collecting dust. Don't have a pistol and was considering cutting down that rifle barrel to use as a pistol. Are there any problems with that? I don't know what the twist is in it, but is that problematic?

    Touchhole plug other than toothpick?

I often go the other way. I'll take a syringe and needle and shoot hot water or cleaning fluid through the touch hole while the muzzle is pointed down. Do this two or three times then swab normally.
