Load for TC Hawken 45 cal?

well each rifle is a little different, but I would start with a .440 ball, about .015 patch and 45 gr. of 3F powder. Should shoot ok, and you can go from there. Hope this helps. See ya, Jim/OH :hatsoff:

    revolver lube

Fly, I used to use bore butter, and it is a good lube, but especially in warm weather it blows everywhere with the first shot and is very messy. This mixture I talked about stays nice even in warm weather. Take care, see ya, Jim/OH :hatsoff:

    revolver lube

I use a small "butter knife" like those used to spread butter onto bread or something. A little better than a popcicle stick. My lube is half beeswax and half synthetic motor oil. Works well. Hope this helps, see ya, Jim/OH :hatsoff:

    York Shoot

Hear a local boy named Page Carr came in second. Was glad to hear that. Don't know what his string measurement was though. It had to be pretty good to place second at York. See ya, Jim/OH :hatsoff:

    Pistol Barrels?

Ok, yes I do know you and your family. I have been going to Friendship about 11 years now, and shoot mostly pistol, with an occasional side trip to the offhand line or woods walk for part of a day or so. If all goes well, I'll see you in June. Take care, Jim/OH :hatsoff:

    Pistol Barrels?

Well, if all goes as planned, I expect to be on the pistol line all week in June also. If you want to see this "zip gun" I will most likely be shooting it on a couple of days, and will have it with me all week. Of course have to shoot flint, revolver and red-dot on some days. :thumbsup...

    Pistol Barrels?

I have settled on 20 gr. of FFFG Goax. I have shot anywhere from 15 gr. to a high of 30 gr. in it. It shoots good with the 30 gr. load, but is loud and a little added recoil. But 20 seems to be about the best. I use a .315 cast ball, and .018 patches, either pre-lubed or using Dutch Schultz's...

    Pistol Barrels?

I have an Ed Rayle barrel in .32 on my home made "zip gun". Have shot it for about 8 or 9 years, hundreds of shots and it is great. Will shot one hole groups at 25 yds. I bought it when Vernon Davis owned what is now Stonecreek Outfitters, so that tells you how long I have had it. So...

    muzzleloading clubs in N.E. OHIO

Sorry, never heard of either one of those, however I live a little south of Columbus. The nearest to that area I get is Centerburg where I often shoot at The Ohio Valley Club there on the first weekend of the month. Haven't been any further Northeast than that. See ya, Jim/OH...

    Dutch Schoultz and Blackpowder Accuracy

Yes Dutch, I bought your system a few years ago. Took the most of it to heart right away, but never tried the "dry lube" part of it. Always used the prelubed patches, and I thought they were working well, but then they got so expensive I decided to try something else. I took my .36 cal...

    Western Nationals In Phoenix

Hi Richard :hatsoff: Good to see your name on here again. You do some good shooting at the Winter Nationals for me. Wish I could get there sometime, maybe next year? :hmm: Say hi to my shooting buddy, Lou Heilsel and his wife Lynn. You will find them on the pistol line. :thumbsup...

    New from S.W. Ohio

Hi Horserod, Boy, glad to hear from you. You're pretty close to me (probably about 10 miles or so). Grew up near Bowersville and went to school there. That tells ya how old I am, heck they don'e even have a school in Bowersville now. Where do you shoot? I have a range at my house...

    Bore Brush stuck in Barrel

Bobber has the right ides. Works slick as a whistle. Finding the right size copper tubing long and straight enough is the trick. See ya, Jim/OH :hatsoff:

    Competition and Replacement Powders

Black powder substitutes are ok at Friendship, only smokeless is banned. Hope this helps, see ya, Jim/OH :hatsoff:

    Black Powder Vendor?

Black powder last forever. Just keep it in a dry place and average temperature. Don't mess with any artificial powder or any kind. Find some way to get real black powder, you will never regret it. Hope this helps, see ya, Jim/OH :hatsoff:

    Pan Powder--Load Powder

NullB is definately faster than 4F, but not by much. I notice it most in my flint pistol. But with the cost nearly twice as much, I only use it in serious compeition. See ya, Jim/OH :hatsoff:

    Remington #11 caps?

Yes, I too think the Remington caps are the best. If I could only get one kind, I would hope it would be Remington. They are the most reliable to fire, I have found a few where the charge fell out, but not nearly as many as some have noted. If I were hunting with them, I would pre-inspect them...

Shooting Right Hand Rifle Left Eye Dominate

Brown Bear, I have only saw one right handed shooter shooting a left handed flintlock. It is on the opening pre-show runner on American Rifleman TV episodes. Watch at the beginning, two flint shooters are fireing, the one neeling down is shooting right handed with a left handed flintlock going...

Can I cut down a rifle barrel to make a pistol?

My own personal experience says a cut down rifle barrel will not give competition quality shooting. I tried it with my .32 "zip" gun I built using a piece of rifle barrel. It would not shoot worth a hoot. Bought an Ed Rayle pistol barrel, and it now is a tack driver. So, it depends on what...

    Newbie from OH-IO

Hi Michael, Welcome to the forum from another Buckeye. I started out with a TC Hawken also, and still have it. It is my main deer gun still. You can learn a lot of info here, so enjoy. See ya, Jim/OH :hatsoff:
