    Thoughts on SPAM "meat"

Perhaps it is because when I was growing up SPAM was a regular staple in our diets. Dad usually cooked the stuff. He would roll out some waxed paper and grab a few Saltines Soda Crackers and run a polling pin over them to break them up. Then an egg would get whipped. The slices of Spam were...

    Complete Kibler Colonial Smoothrifle

I do indeed like it. Wonderful workmanship. Lovely wood. The only problem I can see is it is not in my gun cabinet.

    Boiled Chicken Feet

Dad used rave about frog legs. It wasn't until about 8 years ago that I finally found a restaurant that had them. Actually it was an Asian buffet that had them, but, only on Sundays. I tried them and liked them. I look for them now when we eat there on Sundays.

    Boiled Chicken Feet

When I was but a young lad my Suisse/German Grandmother would make boiled chicken feet and they were so good that there was quite a rush to the platter when they were ready. This usually happened shortly after the big chicken butchering weekend in the fall of the year. Last week while on my...

    Mulberries

When my ancestors came to Minnesota in the 1800's the original homestead had a small mulberry tree. It was much larger when my great uncle came back from France in 1918. When we would go to visit we always checked the mulberry tree for berries and as kids we would climb that old tree when we...

    '62 Po-po?

Excellent point about loading lever length! If you are loading a round ball that shaves a lead ring when loading you will likely need an extension on that loading lever. I know myself and others that tried the short barreled one I had found it near impossible to load without an extension.

    '62 Po-po?

Some years back (25) I had one of each barrel length and shot them both occasionally. These are fun little pistols and to my eye the 6½" barreled model is the prettiest pistol I have ever seen. I bought these pistols used at a local gun show and noticed the loading lever on the 6½" was bent...

    steamed squirrel

Wonderful story and photo! Thanks for sharing with us. Here in Minnesota the game warden would be chasin' ya through the woods fer huntin' squirrels before the middle of September.

    Single Shot Percussion Target Pistols

Even fixed sights can be moved so I would not let that stop me from buying a pistol that shoots excellent groups. The Patriots show up on gunbroker periodically and there was one on ebay yesterday with barrel and stock sold separately. It does not have a trigger like the Morini 84E, but, the...

    Single Shot Percussion Target Pistols

I, too, have a Patriot and while I have not shot it at the typical Olympic free pistol distances I can say it functions reliably, is very accurate at 50 yards and is a lot of fun to shoot. I have found using the hook on the trigger guard really stabilizes the gun in your hand. The sights are...

What is your favorite patch material?

Well, I am sensing a trend here and I am thinking my chasing linen has come to an abrupt end. And it looks like I am going to become a cotton ticking user very soon. My closet is in need of cleaning, too. Thanks all!

    Turtle Soup

I remember a TV show that had noodling in the title, I don't know if this is the one as there are multiples listed on imdb. Okie Noodling

What is your favorite patch material?

There are online sellers of linen, although none of them I have seen reference the weight or thickness or weave density. I have found a place 81 miles away in St. Paul, MN and I am not crazy about going up there. Fabric stores seem to be a thing of larger to big towns these days. Our little...

What is your favorite patch material?

I have a rifle my brother gifted to me years ago and I have not shot it yet. I have been looking for some linen fabric and I am learning linen is near impossible to find these days in Minnesota. What is your favorite patching material for shooting out your muzzleloader?

    Turtle Soup

Dad made the mistake of throwing a live snapping turtle into the trunk of the care once. The darn thing really trashed the trunk and everything in it except the spare tire. It even bent up the jack to the point he needed a new one. As kids we were warned not to mess with snappin' turtles.

    Turtle Soup

When I was a kid my grandfather lived across the street from a fellow that earned his living catching, butchering and shipping the turtle meat "out east" to restaurants in the early part of the last century. I don't suppose there is much commercial turtle harvesting these days. Dad would...

    Leather or lead for flint

More than a dozen years ago my brother gifted me his John Bergmann built .32 caliber longrifle and I can remember him shooting this gun years ago and it had lead around the flint. When he gifted it to me it had leather wrapped around the flint. I suspect he made the change for a reason and...
