    Cabela's bp revolvers

Ditto to that. I used to hear that the Uberti BPs were much better than the Cabelas/Pietta -- but my Uberti 1861 Navy has been nothing but trouble, while my Cabelas Remington '58 has been no trouble at all. And it's surprisingly accurate!

I've found this as well. Add another vote.

    1861 spare parts

Hey, Willy - Let me know how you do with it. I've found it a very finicky firearm: I've had any number of issues with misfires with it -- position of the wedge seems to be critical; even a few millimeters makes a difference. I'd be interested to hear your experience. Thanks, ValleyForge

    What capper to use?

Seemed to me that I was spending so much time lining the caps up properly that it was hardly worth it. Hey, I'm old & fumble-fingered, but it's easier for me just to stick 'em on by hand.

    Looking to buy a revolver

That's something that never fails: I bring out my BP firearms (2 revolvers & a Kentucky flintlock pistol) and I always attract attention. I take out my .45LC & nobody much cares. I think there's something basic in the old weapons -- they sort of connect you to the past, and I think even the...

    Uberti vs. Pietta

And I've had the exact opposite experience. Hell of a World, ain't it?

    Uberti vs. Pietta

I have a .44 Remington Pietta that has been absolutely trustworthy. But when I got my 61 Colt I figured I'd try the High-Priced Spread & go with the Uberti. It's been nothing but trouble, and is on its way back to the manufacturer to see if they can figure it out.

    CCI caps smaller than Remington?

JohnnyO - I think you're correct. With #10 CCI caps I can't even turn the cylinder of my '61 colt -- they don't fit on well enough. -- VF

    1858 misfiring

Someone on another forum mentioned a company named "Tesso" that makes high-quality replacement nipples. I can't find the company on the internet or on Dixie Gun Works' site. Anyone know of these guys?

    1858 misfiring

I have the same problem with an 1861 Uberti Navy Colt.. WIth some caps (CCI), I can have a whole cylinder misfire first time around, then work the 2nd. With Remington caps it's a little better, but still not reliable. Ideas, gents? -- VF

How many shots fired before cleaning my 1858 new army .44 cal pietta ?

The CCIs are fine on my .44 Remington -- no problems. I like the Remington caps primarily for my .61 Colt - there I have fewer misfires with the Remmies, but the problem seems to be the pistol and not the caps. And don't ever skip a thorough cleaning, as soon as you can after shooting. As far...

How many shots fired before cleaning my 1858 new army .44 cal pietta ?

Hi, Big Z My Remmy is a Pietta, ordered from Cabela's, and I normally use #11 caps on it. It's really reliable, fairly accurate, and great fun. And as I'm the only PB shooter at the club, it attracts a lot of attention. I like the Remington caps, but my local outfitter only stocks CCIs. They...

How many shots fired before cleaning my 1858 new army .44 cal pietta ?

I used to use Crisco in front of the cylinder -- but it was a hell of a mess, particularly in summer. Then I switched to using a lubricated wad between the powder and the ball. From what I understand, this can also help protect against chain fires -- and inexplicably, and I realize this makes...

    Happy Holidays!

Hey, All! I've learned a lot from you guys this year. Merry Christmas, Happy Chanukah, Happy Kwanzaa, Happy Boxing Day, and whatever else you may be celebrating! And a great 2006 to everyone. Keep your powder dry in '06, and thanks for all the good info. -- Valley Forge

How many shots fired before cleaning my 1858 new army .44 cal pietta ?

Unlike my 1861 Colt, my Pietta Remington will go all day, just as long as I do a through cleaning after each session -- break it down, clean the barrel & cylinder -- and it's ready to go for next time. I've shot as many as 8 cylinders without fouling.

    Caps on a 1858 Rem.

I have a Pietta 1858 and have had best luck with #11s. Regardless of brand, they seem to work well. I'm sure glad we cleared this up for you......

    Carrying Spare Cylinders...

In any case, it was cool watching Clint swap out Remington cylinders in "Pale Rider". Perhaps you have to be as unflappable as Brother Eastwood to change cylinders when you're staring down the Grim Reaper. I imagine that in the heart of a battle you'd need nerves of steel. Then again, the...

    Revolver Quit Revolvin'!

Real interesting.... Maybe the cylinder gap is what's been causing my issues with the 1861 Uberti Colt...I'll have to try futzing (that's the technical term) with it.

    Fouling in 1861 Colt

Very interesting. I'll have to fiddle with it & see where it gets me. Thanks!
