    Tang bolt drill jig

This is not the information you are asking for but if you have a drill press table vice, I just place a vertical point in the vice and line it up with the C/L of the chuck. Works well for me. Larry

Just bought my first flintlock. What do I need to take it out shooting, and what do I need to know to have a safe and enjoyable time.

Congrats on your new TC. You have already received a lot of good advice. Here are a few additional suggestions: Do a dry load run at home just like you are goiog to do in the field only don't really load the gun. How are you going to support the rifle when loading?? Like when hunting, or...

Now that is a sweet under-hammer pistol!

My good friend Rod came over for a visit Tue since I am recuperating from hip replacement 3/21/24. Naturally we had to have coffee and a muffin along with tales of our muzzleloadng journey together since the early 70s. In his early years Rod cranked out all kinds of muzzleloaders, but mostly...

I had never even heard of a alignment tool untill about 4 years ago, when someone on this forum pointed it out to this ignorant carpenter. I purchased one right away and have been using it where needed. We can learn something every day if we have our eyes and ears open. Thanks Larry

Good thought, but not for me in this circumstance. My DP vice is on the floor. Be it good or bad, my preference was to extend the table so the barrel would lay flat and solid. I do not like putting a 48" barrel into a short clamp. PS Don't laugh at my dart backboard. Got grandkids that...

In case you did not know: This tool in the chuck, is a spring loaded tap alignment tool. The shaft extending into the top of the tap has spring loaded travel. This tool keeps consistent proper alignment pressure on the tap. No need to be moving the chuck down while hand turning the tap Larry

Actually you flunked 😂 Newbies and more newbies were to reply. You been around since 2012 I doubt you are a newbie unless I flunked math. Thanks anyway we like to hear from everyone. Larry

Good thought, but I hand filed the flat and just used a square to make sure I was 90deg. Thanks Larry

Right you are!! The drill press is only for alighment and to hold the tapping pressure tool. I turn the tap by hand. Good point to tell the newbies. Thanks Larry

With all respect to you. I am not a machinist, but a carpenter. I use what I have. I have learned years ago, it don't matter how you skin the critter, just get it done safe and correct. What am I suppose to overcome, the TH is in to my expectations? Larry

Your logic is good, but not true for what I have. There is no way you could know what I have with just a photo. Long story short, I extended the table with a chunk of hardwood I had, tiped the R side of the table down until the flat was 90 deg to a temporary long drill bit. In other words the...

Not at All. This post is trying to show anyone interested in one method to drill and tap for a TH. If you don't have a drill press and try to tap free hand it could get real ugly. The TH needs to be counter sunk flush with the filed on/in barrel flat. Don't think a newbie can make that...

Thanks! Now another question. How would you position the table the tapered barrel is clamped on? Larry

I will start with a simple photo and ask......What am I doing here and why? Please, if you are an old hand and can do it blindfolded, no need to spoil the post for those learning. Larry
