What size powder should I use?

The nice thing about black powder weapons is that you can decrease the load. I used 30 grains of 3f in my 45 cal Kentucky this last weekend for my 10 year old nephew. He went 4 for 4 on steel out to 50 yards with this load. Maybe consider giving that a try when introducing a new person to this...

    rendering lead pure?

Here is one writers opinion that I had found on this subject when researching lead. The following is an excerpt from this site: http://tinyurl.com/ysgusr "There is no safe way that a person at home can remove tin, antimony, etc from lead. Once it is alloyed, it requires a refinery to remove...

    Nipple Size?

I just bought a new nipple for my Dad's Pedersoli Kentucky Rifle and it took a 1/4 x 28 nipple. This rifle is an early 70's model. 'SnappinCaps' '.45 Cal. Kentucky Percussion' "Let's go pop some more caps!"

    lyman gph 50 cal

Our club shoots steel targets so I couldn't go to light on the load. The GPH possibly isn't a good gun for me to get right now then. Since I'm not planning on hunting with it. From what I read up on it, it does sound like it should shoot conicals real well. 'SnappinCaps' '.45 Cal. Kentucky...

My wifes recently purchased Traditions Kentucky Pistol says "Traditions" on it. It also says "Made in Spain" and "Old Saybrook, CT. USA". 'SnappinCaps' '.45 Cal. Kentucky Percussion' "Let's go pop some more caps!"

    lyman gph 50 cal

Thanks Styr. I saw one available today for around $300. What I found when searching is, this looked to be a fair amount below retail for a brand new Lyman GPH. I'd have to look it over better to see what kind of shape it was in for sure. I just gave it a quick glance over for model and caliber...

    lyman gph 50 cal

Does the Lyman GPH shoot RB very well with it's 1 in 32 twist? Everyone always seems to talk about the GPR but I can't find details about the GPH and shooting RB with it. Any input is appreciated. TIA. 'SnappinCaps' '.45 Cal. Kentucky Percussion' "Let's go pop some more caps!"

    Offhand vs. Rest Shots

Guess that would work for those that have double triggers on their guns. For those of us that don't, we look for other ways. 'SnappinCaps' '.45 Cal. Kentucky Percussion' "Let's go pop some more caps!"

    Offhand vs. Rest Shots

Good idea Styr. A beveled plumbing washer also does a good job of protecting the nipple. Should be able to find at most any hardware store. The one on here was given to me by the guy I bought the gun from so I haven't had to look for any yet. 'SnappinCaps' '.45 Cal. Kentucky Percussion'...
