    hog behavior

Probably the same reason deer do it all the time... What that is I have no clue but it's not just a hog thing.

    Minimum Caliber for wild boar

It will, just fine. But the bigger gun isn't always the solution. I've lost them with .62's with bad shoulder shots and killed them dead right there with .50's in the boilerroom. Don't aim on a hog like a on a deer. The vitals are lower. The plate thing is sort of like their cutters. Some...

    minimum cal. for hogs?

We wrestled this one down a few weeks back. :blah: We let him loose to make more for us to catch. Putting them on the ground is easy. LETTING THEM GO is the tricky part!!

    minimum cal. for hogs?

Yes. Stick to Ear shots. Don't try to shoulder shoot it with a .40 unless you are positive it's a small one, 75 lbs or less. Don't shoot it head on in the forehead. You'll be fine.

    DSTs for hunting?

The few set triggers I've used would fire on the front alone (albeit with more pressure) but with the rear set the front was much, much lighter.

    Dec' '15 Indiana Trip

Thanks guys! I was hunting on a "lease" SW of W. Lafayette....this Florida boy doesn't give great detail on his hunting spots. LOL!! I was using my best shooting rifle, a .50 built by Steve Krolick. I have prettier guns, and I have more sentimental guns but that's my go to rifle when something...

    Dec' '15 Indiana Trip

A little late but here goes. I did my annual Indiana trip again this past year and got lucky. I'd taken hogs and does with my flinters but a good buck always eluded me. Not any more. I heard about this buck from a local friend who told me right where he'd be and sure enough he was there. He...

    Muzzle loading magazine

I have many, many issues of Muzzleloader going back to the 80's. The latest issues since Jason Gatliff took over is a whole 'nother level of magazine compared to the previous issues. I have lots of love for the Scurlocks and have given my share of $$ to buy their books. Jason has taken it up a...

Just ordered my first flintlock fowler!

I have one. It's one of my favorites. Their fowlers will have the Oct to round, not the straight Oct barrel so no need to worry. But if you want piece of mind just call them. It'll take a minute before they start on yours. I too, would recommend you get a round faced lock instead of the Siler...

    Bullet boards?

Not so. I am not ashamed to admit I shot at the same deer 4 times last year. She stood there for 2. Jumped about 10 ft when I hit her with the 3rd. Then walked a little ways before I sent the 4th. I've watched my dad way back when shoot deer in the boiler room that stood there and looked at...

    Bullet boards?

I killed a small hog a month or so ago with that setup of a PRB. Seemed to work as you'd hope for. http://www.muzzleloadingforum.com/fusionbb/showtopic.php?tid/289999/post/1415374/hl//fromsearch/1/#1415374

    deer hunting

I know. Funny thing is, that rifle shoots real good and I've never missed anything else I ever shot at with it or any of my other flintlocks. I think it was global warming or something.

    deer hunting

Last season I shot at a doe 4 times. The same doe. 4...FOUR...times. So, yes it helps to be quick on your reloads, LOL!
