    Black powder on smokeless ranges

I always like to have at least one gun that will shoot ragged hole groups at 50 or 100 yards, preferably a flintlock. Splash targets hits are easy to see at 100yards. Or one that will ring steel consistently at 200 or 300 yards, typically something shooting paper patched bullets. Hit a steel...

    Pedersoli Rust Brown Barrel?

Could have been, though I have seen guns clearly and only marked as Pedersoli with the Cerakote ceramic type finish on them at a Pedersoli display booth at a gun show. Pedersoli rep tried explain how the finish was much tougher than traditional rust bluing, though no one seemed to be buying it...

    Pedersoli Rust Brown Barrel?

Believe Cabelas was the first place I saw one of Pedersolis’ guns with Cerakote ceramic faux rust brown finish. It was in their bargain cave or whatever they called it, with a scuffed up stock and barrel finish. I was tempted, but the Cerakote finish convinced me to walk once figured out what it...

ADDING SOLDER TO LEAD FOR ROUND BALL CASTING

It will bump the diameter of your roundball up a few the thousands, and the harder roundball will be more difficult to load in cap and ball revolver, causing additional stress on loading lever components and frame. In a long gun or single shot pistol, no worries as long as you size the patch...

    Pedersoli Rust Brown Barrel?

I have seen a Cerakote ceramic type finish on some Pedersoli guns instead of a rust brown. Looks very uniform, but imagine it would tend to chip or scratch instead of developing a worn patina from use, as it is a surface topcoat instead of a conversion process like traditional rust brown. Just...

Pretty much answered your original question.

    I have this barrel.🤔

Ok, dealer’s choice. You have an unused breeched rifle barrel. You can use as set up (all the CVAs I have seen had chambered breeches), re-breech for a rifle, or cut into as many pistol or short barreled guns as practical. Without knowing what you want to do, I would lean towards a long rifle of...

    I have this barrel.🤔

Before you go too far, what is the bore condition? Have you run a borescope down it? A rough bore isn’t necessarily a show stopper, just means it’s a different show.

First Flint bore charge not going off.

You can try variations of the same process, but if your troubles continue, you may have to change things up and try something different. That is why i suggested using alcohol and letting the gun sit muzzle down overnight before your range session. Hope you figure out what the issue is.

First Flint bore charge not going off.

How long is the ‘bit’ you are letting it dry? I would suggest cleaning with something like alcohol the night before you plan to go shooting, then letting the gun sit muzzle down overnight.

    Joann's - what am I doing wrong ?

I’ve checked Ox Yoke patches and found the thickness not as consistent as I would like, nor do they offer the thicker patches many of my guns prefer. With their pre-lubed offerings you never knew the date of manufacture and if the patch material had started degrading from exposure to the lube...

    Joann's - what am I doing wrong ?

I’ve ordered patch material from BurlapFabric and BigDuckCanvas in the past. Last order I got 2 yards x 60” wide each of ticking and 10 oz canvas from BurlapFabric for less than $20 plus shipping (other items were ordered so not sure of exact shipping). The ticking measures .015” thick, .012”...

    Mail broken parts by UPS

If it makes you feel better call the items machine parts. As long as you are not sending items like receivers for modern guns you are good to go. You could also look up UPS shipping guidelines to confirm.

Problem with ignition on my new Hawken

One of those old rule of thumb things that I was taught years ago for swabbing between shots (if deemed necessary) was to size the cleaning jag and patches so that with two patches on the jag it would slide down a clean bore easily with little more than the ramrod weight applied. When swabbing...

Odd results; bench vs. offhand shooting

One range outing doesn’t mean much. Not if results are repeating over multiple outings, something to think about.

    Joann's - what am I doing wrong ?

There is always the order online option where I have found what I want in 60” wide material at $3-$5 a yard. Yes, there is shipping, but unless you have to touch the material or the ‘local’ fabric store is a just around the corner, it will take some gas to get there and back. Although I may look...

    Disaster

No, no and no…. ‘heat the muzzle area with a propane torch to where the metal was malleable’ and you will up with two individual barrels when the solder melts.

    Disaster

If one were to use a Morse tapered tool tapped into the bore, I would suggest putting a stout piece brass or copper rod in the barrel first. It will knock the tapered tool out when you are done with whatever you are trying to accomplish.
