    Broken main spring

I just broke my main spring. Is a large siler flint lock. It's a stock cast steel main spring.I do not have a replacement, and even if I did , it would probably be the same quality. Does anybody know where to get a forged spring for this lock? What would be the best steel to make one If I cannot...

    Whitworth cannon?

Does anybody here have any experience with them? are they consider appropriate for this forum? I know they were used during the civil war. I'm thinking of making one in the future , if I can get my hands on a modern artillery barrel 40mm or smaller.I doubt I could afford the bigger guns with the...

    Whitetail...Squirrel?

I took a break today at work , and hit the woods with my Bess. Not much going on, in the early afternoon, and not much time to stick around for too long.In any case, I saw a squirrel way up a oak tree ,and down it went. Big surprise though, check this out!

    My Bess squirrels

I decided today to dust off my Bess. It's been over two years since I took it out. It was raining on and off for most of the day , so the day was less than ideal for the Bess, never the less, I gave it a shot. Indeed, a good 4 shots that is. This is the result.

    More squirrels

I cannot put into words how much I love squirrel hunting. Some of you know what I'm talking about. Unfortunately, we have a ban on Sunday gun hunting on my side of the woods. Its always been that way here, you just have to live with it. I try to hunt every moment that I can, and today was no...

    squirrel opened today

I had a great start of the season with my limit in less than two hours. This is by far my favorite gun. Since I made it over two years ago, I took 36 squirrels so far , and 4 grouse. I'm still waiting to get a deer with it yet. For those that want to know, is a .45 GM swamp barrel 44inch long ...

    Patches destroyed

I went to the range yesterday and did some testing at 100 yds with a heavy (for me) load with the .45 flinter. I fired at a 6in plate from the bench 8 shots, and missed 2 out fo 8 . The problem was that it was inconsistent and to prove it was the gun and not me , I shot it with the .22 for...

    more squirrels with the .45

It's been a great season so far for squirrels. I bag # 14 & 15 yesterday. Was up Sudbury area for a week for moose, but no moose was even seen.Instead I got me 5 grouse. The funny thing was that the grouse were shot with a big game load of 75 grs and PRB(2050-2100 FPS),and the squirrels with...

    Shot in a rifle

I had the best squirrel opener today!Loaded with round ball, but the squirrels were too high up the trees and could not afford to miss, so rather by a safety reason I switched to my secret weapon. Shot in a rifle!!! and once again it worked flawlessly. Check it out!!! I got my limit!!!!

    Hunting sword

I decided that i NEEDED a hunting sword. After looking for some time I found nothing I liked. I decided then to make my own at my own style, and this is what I came up with. I put on the blade the same mark I have on my gun, kind of a prsonal touch

    tru oil

Hi guys.I finished my gun with tru oil and it looks really good.I aplied 15 coats as per instructions and the finish is superb. But at the begining of the spring I run into a problem, the finished got ruined with mosquitoes repelant and I had to sand a big part of the finish and start over.Got it...

    Air gap

Does anyone know why it is so dangerous to short seat a load? I know about the dangerous pressures that that creates in the barrel, but I do not know why.Is counter-inuitive , as you have more volume to fill with the same amount of gases. I can only speculate that the air traped inside between...

    Shot in a rifle(pictures)

Ok, this is been here way too many times, but this time I will show you how I do it , and it works. Long story short you need to mess up the rifling ,without REALLY messing it up.More like cover it for the one shot. So this is what you need and this is how it goes together This is my...

    Barrel stamp

Since I'm working on my gun , I though to put some kind of "signature" on the barrel. Do you guys think this would look good on the top flat? If so where about on it?

    1st try

Ok , so I'm working on my first "real" build. Is the Verner kit from Pecatonica. Let's see if the pic works. Sorry if it doesn't, it's my first try http://s1260.photobucket.com/albums/ii563/juancho13777/?action=view&current=HPIM2180.jpg

    Pecatonica rifle kit

Ok,I've done. I ordered their A. Verner kit with a swamp barrel .45.This will be my first build in over 30 years.I upgraded the wood to the fanciest curly maple available ,once I see it I will decide how much relief carving is required.I go full bore or let the wood speak for itself, kind of...

    .54 FFg or FFFg

I went to the range and put this one to the test. I used Goex FFg and FFFg (the only ones available to me), and put many loads thru the crony. The gun is my Pedersoli jager .54 60/1 twist. Same point of aim at 25 yds amd the result was a 1.5" ragged hole.more than 100 rounds were fired and had 4...

    Accuracy problems

Hi guys, I hope some of you went thru this and know how to solve it. My problem is that for some reason my Pedersoli pensylvania will not group anymore. It went from 1 in at 100 yds to 10 in at 50 yds everything else being equal. To solve that I instaled a peepsight and a tunel front sight...
