Aqua Fortis color vs Chambers stain

Well, I took a piece of the scrap wood, did some minor "clean up" sanding, then did one application of Aquafortis, followed by a heat gun. Then (on the right side) I applied two coats of True Oil just to see what it would look like. The brown is nice......but I want some red hue in it. I've done...

    18th Century Wood Rammers

Ash? From my favorite sitting chair I can see at least 5 dead ash trees from the emerald bore beetle.

Or go with one of these: Unbreakable wooden ramrods. A bit pricey, but maybe buy once, cry once. I don't have one BTW

    Jim Kibler's Colonial Rifle

I'm likely gonna build another one after I get done with this Leman. But.....just quit saying how nice his kits are!!! I need just a little time to "jar my pennies!!"

    draw file

I'm glad your liking your finish. In previous post that I made it was suggested to me to not go any more than 220 grit on the sanding. I'm now draw filing the barrel and will finish it with 220 grit prior to browning with LMF. I browned all the furniture and did my "final" sanding of that...

    Stock Cast off

When I began my TOTW Leman with a pre-carve (not the pre-inletted) stock, I read up on cast off and measured my stock to see if that could be done. Maybe by a guy who is well versed in building, but not me. I will say this....shooting a rifle (open sights) requires lining up the sights. No...

I don't know your skill level or your "courage level"....but there is another post on this board that shows what can be done with silver inlaying. Maybe a way to go to get rid of the 2 page safety instructions on the barrel? I don't think you would have to do silver, but copper or brass maybe?

You may want to keep that information on the barrel. However, one matter to consider (and I know nothing about the Lyman pistol) is if your removing a lot of barrel material, and the barrel will be skinnier, is there going to be a gap between the barrel and the stock?

    Can I peen 'enough metal....tang?

Everything except the barrel is 99% and all "in the white." The screws in the pics are not the correct ones. I just wanted to see the brass on it. Oh....."Where's Spot?" is my current novel that I'm on. It's thick....will take a lot of time! From these pics....how about a few critiques? No...

Aqua Fortis color vs Chambers stain

Just way to much brass....to much steel...to much well fitting inlays....to nice of a wood. I could go on..... :rotf: :rotf:

Aqua Fortis color vs Chambers stain

Amazing! Thanks for all of your responses. If the AQ makes the scrap piece pop........that's likely the way I'll go. :hatsoff:

Aqua Fortis color vs Chambers stain

Not responding just to Dane, but for clarification, I have the Aquafortis Reagent from TOTW. I assume, from what I've read, that the TOTW is a more diluted solution than ferric nitrate solutions that some use. I will test the Aquafortis Reagent on the scrap wood I have from my stock. Now...

    Can I peen 'enough metal....tang?

My browning came out great!.....Well, except for that part on the lock and toe plate. I missed just 2 area's in between the pan....so I thought I could be "very careful" and dab some LM in there. (Same kinda thing on the toeplate. Well.....the LM ran onto the plate.....so then I gave a total...

Aqua Fortis color vs Chambers stain

It's his actual stain. Chambers web site It's his product #FK-S. I sent in (just yesterday) an order for both the stain and his Stock Finish: #FK-F. I thought I would try both. However, I called his number and they are out of town until today or tomorrow. I figured I would have better luck...

Is there a significant difference in the appearance of Aqua Fortis when compared to Jim Chambers wood stain?
