Chris' posting has been swallowed by the Bermuda Triangle! :bull:

    lehigh rifle plans

Go to the Flintlock Rifle forum on this site and look for Chris Laubach's posting of a Lehigh he recently finished. It's capable of going head to head with anyone's, IMHO.

    Flintlocks Anonymous 12 Step Program

I'm LSU Tiger, and in addition to sulfurous smoke, I'm addicted to maple shavings and iron filings... :shocked2:

    Frizzen life

As far as the T/C lock goes, the external shape of the cock and frizzen has nothing to do with the performance of a lock. Geometry is determined by the tumbler and the position of the notches in the tumbler. My experience with Chambers' locks is mixed, I've always had to reharden the frizzen...

    Aquafortis

I made my own, it's pretty simple. I used 4oz of 50% acid cut with 32 oz of water. Then I added steel wool, nails, and other bits of iron / steel until the reaction stopped. It works great, and I have a lifetime supply.

    Recycling barrel?

To add to Bookie's response, According to federal firearms laws, black powder or muzzleloading firearms aren't considered to be firearms at all, they're classed as antique. However, some local laws include muzzleloaders. But, the last time I checked, they'll kill just as dead as a .30 - 06.

    Purpose of frizzen bridle

The addition or absence of a frizzen bridle was a matter quality. Low quality trade locks often lacked a bridle for the frizzen. There are exceptions to any "rule," and this is no different. Many Second and all (as far as I know) Third Pattern Brown Bess muskets had bridles. I've also seen...

    Selling built guns

I'd suggest that you pick a style of rifle you like and build variations of it until you know every nuance of the school. You will improve your skills and develop a style of building. A friend who's a great builder tells his clients to buy the parts and ship them to him. If they change...

    stock blank

I've gotten beautiful wood from Dunlap's, but it has always been very soft, yes, even the sugar maple. I'd call either Tigerhunt or Freddie Harrison. Freddie is a good 'ol boy that knows wood. Tell him what you want, and you will get it. Read that the same for Tigerhunt, except he's a city...

    J.P. Gemmer spencer convesion

I built a Sharps - Gemmer several years ago in .44 SBN and basically "flew by the seat of my pants" with regards to design. It's a good shooter, but a bit on the muzzle heavy side. One of the Italian companies makes or used to make a Sharps - Gemmer, maybe that would be a help.

    J.P. Gemmer spencer convesion

The one and only picture I have of one shows the issue butt with a different fore stock, rib and pipes for a wiping rod. It shouldn't be too hard to do, but you will likely have to start from scratch.

I agree, RCA I & II and Thoughts on the Kentucky Rifle in it's Golden Age by Kindig.

    one big rant on supplies

Thanks for the simplification, Zonie. To the subject at hand, I use TOW for 99.9% of my parts needs. If they goof, a call is all it takes to make it right. Others, well... Not as lucky.

    Trigger Guard install question

I find it helps to bend a bit of "spring" into the front extension and clamp it in place for drilling. The bend helps pull it in tight.

    Source for alcohol-based stains

The LMF stains are alcohol based. I've used them after cutting them 100% with denatured alcohol.

    The Baker has landed

Nice Baker rifle, Robin. I understand that many were sold to the Mexicans and were used in the 1836 Texas Revolution, as were Brown Bess Muskets. In profile it reminds me of a Pistor Jaeger.

What is a resonable time to wait on TOTW?

I too use Davey and Fred's method of calling first. Another thing if you can't call is to click the "do not back order" box on the online order form. You get an email saying the order was cancelled. By all means, give'em a call. Anything is possible, and at the least, they can tell you when...

    Made some curly maple kindling

Bill, white ash was also used for utility grade gun stocks like barn guns and muskets (American Revolution use mostly).
