    NMLRA membership

You lost me. I took it from earlier in the thread that you haven't taken the long trip to Friendship because of the fear of getting manure for having a T/C and now your saying you actually went and got manure for having one? Jason Stafford, VA ETA or are you saying you showed up HERE and got manure...

    NMLRA membership

I'm a lifetime member and don't regret it for a minute. I enjoy the magazine every month. If anything is hurting the NMLRA it may be that it seems to be more of a regional organization, the same complaint some have of the N-SSA. There is plenty of support in the NMLRA for traditional...

    Quick question: Model 1863 Springfield

You could go with an 1842 Springfield, it's a .69 smoothbore and could scratch both your Civil War and smoothy itches. The problem is that it won't swing and point nearly as well as a dedicated fowler.

Clubs in VA, preferably NOVA area

Thanks guys! zimmerstutzen, Great suggestion on checking up north, I'll touch bases with them. At the moment my main intent is to try and find a good local range and a "home" club but I plan on traveling to different events within reason once I'm set up. Coot, I'll get an email out to the...

Clubs in VA, preferably NOVA area

Hi, I have decided life is too short and it's time to start shooting again! Any recommendations on clubs in the northern Virginia area or within a couple hour drive? I'm thinking the edges I would want to drive would be West Point, Charlottesville, and Winchester. The closer to Stafford /...

Clubs in VA, preferably NOVA area

Whoops, too late to edit my post but I should say that yes I have looked online but am interested in hearing from those with personal experience at the clubs / ranges.

I'm afraid this is exactly what we are going to get from The History Channel. :barf:

Hi, I have decided life is too short and it's time to start shooting again! Are there any clubs in the northern Virginia area or within a couple hour drive? I'm thinking the edges I would want to drive would be West Point, Charlottesville, and Winchester. Wood walks would be a plus as is a club...

    Reccomended reading

Mick C, No doubt he did, the series is a great read and I do recommend it with the reservation that some "facts" are now outdated, like the Blue Jacket story.

    Reccomended reading

While Eckert is a good read remember some of it isn't accepted as accurate anymore. The big thing that sticks out in my mind is that he sticks to the story of Blue Jacket as a white man and that seems to have been debunked now.

    New Shootin' Contest! Sign Up!

Front sight? We don't need no stinkin' front sight! :blah: I'm going to Winchester, VA tomorrow to watch the N-SSA regional so I can get some pointers on shooting offhand. I might be able to shoot Sunday if I get my bathroom floor finished, if not the wife will be doing the shooting! :shocked2...

    .54 or .58

I'm confused here, in equivelent rifles, say a T/C Renegade, the .58 should weigh less then the .54 due to the larger bore size leaving less metal in the 1" barrel.

    1841 Mississippi Rifles

I have joined their forum and may still ask but the Mississippi Rifle will have to wait awhile, I just found a deal on a Shiloh Sharps 1863 Sporting Rifle in, you guessed it, .54 so I'm buying it instead. As you may guess from my screen name I have a fondness for Sharps rifles... I'll probably...

    .54 or .58

I don't think we are that far off here. I agree all things being equal, if you can handle it a .58 is better then a .54 with PRB. I still think if you put the .54 PRB in the right place with enough velocity it will do the job. I will also agree with you that at a distance the .30-30 with...

    Large Bore For Africa Hunt

That is another great point. It all comes down to hitting them good the first time before they "get their blood up"! Unlike humans animals don't know they are dead and from what I have read and heard if you don't kill a cape buff with the first shot it really doesn't matter what you are...
