    "Beaver tail" folder.

I wanna know how you cut the slot straight and square to the fulcrum point. I mean the pin and the slot have to be at 90 degrees to each other or the blade will bind in the handle. That's experience talking by the way. I've only tried one but it didn't turn out well. I didn't get the hole square...

    Buckskinner's estate sale

Those of you that live in southern or central Indiana, theres an estate sale in Fruitdale Indiana Saturday July 25th I'm not affiliated with the seller , don't know him. He had some cool stuff out there: Tomahawks, knives, (Buncha knives) lanterns, a brazier, two canvas tents, one wedge and one...

    Primitive Bow

That arty sinew is pretty crummy string material. Unless its dacron , if its nylon( they make both) you are robbing the bow of some of its energy and not just a little either. Find you some Linen and make a string out of that, its primitive looking and makes a very quiet string. You'll need to...

    walnut staining wool blankets

It went pretty well . There was a lot of "matter" left in the blankets but I'm sure it'll shake out with some use. My dye solution does need strained again. Thanks for you interest.

    Silver plated knife

I heated it up and it was soldered. Does that mean its older or younger? I'm gonna set the knife into an antler handle...the tang was only about an inch long and kinda oblong shaped.

    Silver plated knife

Well I do have 3 or 4 more so I can leave one with the wear on it. I assumed that the handle was plated steel like the blade. Wanted to get the whole knife looking the same. Either way the bleach did a number on the blade and left the handle alone. I may take the handle off and set the blade...

    Silver plated knife

Found a buncha silverware that my grandmother purchased at a yard sale decades ago. Took one of the butter knives and reground it to make a little patch knife. The handle has the filigree and the grape clusters on it, pretty cool lookin. Only thing is I tried to sandblast the silver off so I...

    walnut staining wool blankets

Used my wife's good strainer/flour sifter to get the solids out this mornin. Worked great, good thing she wasn't home! Had to start a fire under it to get rid of the ice first ! Put one blanket in for a half hour removed it and quickly realized it was gonna take waaaaay longer than that to get...

    walnut staining wool blankets

Thanks for the response! The boiled walnuts are cooling right now. I'll take your advice and add the wet blanket to the bath, after I strain out the solids ,then heat it up a little. Though by the looks of the dye it won't take long. Looks pretty strong. I'll let ya'll know how it goes.

    walnut staining wool blankets

:( Well I guess I'll just have to experiment since nobody seems to know how to do it. I got a big fire burning on the other side of the garage and half the walnuts crushed and soaking in a bucket.Dug out my big sap boiling pan to boil it in. I'll get it good and hot tonight, let it cool down...

    Un plating buckles...?

Hey, Paul. I was gonna mention the sandblaster but someone beat me to it. I just waxed the blade of that knife you gave me. Its working up a pretty good mottled patina. Should be a good gift to hand down to a son. Hope yer well. Chris

    walnut staining wool blankets

Alright fellers I have two five gallon buckets full of walnuts I picked up in October. What do I have to do to dye a couple wool blankets with 'em? Is it as simple as : crush'em , boil 'em ,strain out the bits, and then when its cooled some, put in the blanket? I bought the rit dye today ...

    firemaking doodad?

I have used charred punk wood from a rotting maple tree in my side yard to catch a spark for a fire. The pileated woodpecker had dislodged a piece the size of half a loaf of bread. I stuck it in a steel paint can( burned out of course) stabbed a hole in the lid and charred it just like making...

    primitive

"Looks like a blade that you would see in an eastern frontiersmans kit" "Kit" being his stuff. He thought it looked original, a fine compliment. I agree, nice knife, I like the idea of using a hacksaw blade for a guard.

    Board bows.

I wasn't tryin' to tear ya down , just motivate you to figger out whats causin' the hand shock and rectify it. If not on this bow then maybe yer next one. Theres nothin worse than a bow that rattles yer fillin's loose. Well , except the ones that caress yer face as they fly apart at Mach 3! Keep...

    hay

You plan on feeding the cows lead? edit In the interest of answering yer question instead of hackin' on ya. I'd say that shooting into the rounded edge of the bale would give you the most resistance . I WOULDN'T advise using one as a backstop. Not a positive way to stop a bullet. A good thick...

    Board bows.

Well in the interest of makin' you a better bowyer I'd say yer makin' excuses. Ain't trying to start a fight just tellin' ya that a bow made from the same tree as the one you posted can be made to draw and shoot with very little discomfort. Of course theirs alot more to it than just the amount...
