Circassian Flintlock Pistol (Before & After Restoration)

Yes, for gluing, but applying it to the surface of the leather from the outside would cause problems. Fish or hide glue dissolves in water and heat, so it would be a problem if your hands got sweaty. My guess is that it's some kind of resin.

Circassian Flintlock Pistol (Before & After Restoration)

Hi, There was very little skin on it and there was no way to tell. However, as I have seen in Circassian works in general, they prefer to paste. I don't know if they wet it during this time or not. But I know they put some kind of protective layer. This both protects and hardens the leather...

Circassian Flintlock Pistol (Before & After Restoration)

Hi John, Yes, there was a flint on it too. I didn't think to include it in the photo. Unfortunately, due to a minor work accident, I have to rest at home for a few days. I will take photos when I return to the workshop.

And I was finally able to read the signature on the lock. Ameli Ali (master Ali)

That would be absolutely amazing. Unfortunately, my searches were fruitless.

Circassian Flintlock Pistol (Before & After Restoration)

Thank you Rick. Yes, I know the ramrods you are talking about. I have often seen the ones used especially in the Ottoman period in antique shops and collectors. However, I have never seen anything like this that Circassians use for similar purposes and carry on their belt or around their...

Circassian Flintlock Pistol (Before & After Restoration)

Thank you Rick, Nothing remained except a few cm² of the original skin. The body was completely bare. It looks like a ramrod but only a short piece. I don't know why Circassian Flintlocks don't have a ramrod. I was very surprised when I saw the photos before purchasing as I thought he had one...

Circassian Flintlock Pistol (Before & After Restoration)

I had to completely rebuild the knob, the original was unrecoverable. I used buffalo horn. The lock was completely immobile due to rust and the mainspring was broken. I thought about rebuilding it, but then it was broken at the bottom, so I welded it and heat treated it again. It works...

Caucasian Miquelet "Cossack" Pistol & Locks

Hi guys, These are the contents of the Circassian Flintlock I bought yesterday. I thought the barrel was clicked and after trying for a while, these came out. I couldn't save some of the gunpowder (about 1/4 of it). It was an interesting surprise. I don't have precise weighing, but about 6-7...

Caucasian Miquelet "Cossack" Pistol & Locks

Hi Rick, The USA received Circassian immigration from the Middle East before the 1900s, after the Bolshevik Revolution right after the First World War, and finally after the Arab-Israeli War. Unfortunately, the first two groups in particular were not very wealthy and may have had to sell...

Caucasian Miquelet "Cossack" Pistol & Locks

Unfortunately, museums do not allow for viewing. Still I'm doing my best. I previously owned a Caucasian Type rifle and unfortunately had to sell it. However, I took detailed measurements before selling it. Now I have a gun and I will design my work accordingly, but I saw that there were not...

Caucasian Miquelet "Cossack" Pistol & Locks

I bought this beauty today, thanks to a friend's advice. I've never owned an original gun before. First of all, I was pleased that the copy I made (I used the photographs as reference) was so close to the original. 😊 The knob part is made of wood and unfortunately the woodworms ate half of...

Hi Rick, thank you so much. I'm happy to be here 😊

Caucasian Miquelet "Cossack" Pistol & Locks

Thank you. And a firing video. About 3 grams of black powder and some napkins to compress, no lead. I'm very bad at shaping flint so it didn't fire the first time.😊

    What is this used for?

A small hammer for shaping flint, a screwdriver and a camping fire starter. The other sections have no direct purpose other than to lighten the material. Until recently it was an integral part of arches, but the ones that are overly ornate in the photographs are actually not functional. They are...

I made the entire thing, including the barrel and lock. 😊

Caucasian Miquelet "Cossack" Pistol & Locks

Yes, these are definitely a type of screwdriver and a miniature hammer used to shape flint. Its Circassian name is "Shte", but unfortunately I do not know its equivalent in other languages. It is also a type of flint lighter used to ignite tinder.

You are welcome and thank you. Yes, I did this. And yes, I am Circassian too. 😊
