    Cannon ID help needed

A clinky ring like that you would hear if you struck a cast iron skillet. I suspect this cannon may be a commercially made gun and it even may be safe to fire. That number stamped into it is made with modern hand stamps and is probably put there by the founder as their registry mark, and to...

    Cannon ID help needed

Casting lines, bore size and oversized reinforces are not signs of old cannon--more in line with typical cast iron piece from the 50's---1950's. Can't say that eliminates it from a fiesta gun. Few taps with a hammer to see rings like cast iron should tel the tale. Definitely not a shooter...

The(long) Story of a Homemade Cannon

    Wooden (tube liner)Signal Cannon

Something to keep in mind a wooden barreled cannon will not have the greater mass to reduce and dampen recoil and will need to be restrain as were the originals to keep it from flying off down the deck...even with blanks.

    Video-Black powder cannon project

Actually If Squire Robin seems a bit bitter he has every right to be. Several years ago he posted a video on the net about a cannon he has. There were some parts of the video that showed some unsafe loading procedures. There was nothing that a polite comment pointing out the issue would not...

    Video-Black powder cannon project

We may not be experts, but some of us have a pretty good idea what we are doing. You need to spend a little more time doing your research and learn about guns and cannons, how to make them and how to not make them. For the record your cannon may never blow up and you may never have an...

Well said 54ball. A proof load is a well calculated load to develop a specific pressure. Using the American standard of proofing, the design is proofed usually to generate between 140% and 190% of peak working pressure. The proofing protocol may call for one or more shots. That specific gun...

Ouch what a massive over load. The maximum recommend load for a 1 inch bore is 185 grins of Fg. Okay so I use 200 grains of Fg. Here is 200 gr. Fg and a 9 oz. Slug. Here is 200 grain FG and a 3.4 oz round ball. You can see why I don't use the 9 oz slug any more...tears up...

Went down to the Hardware store and bought some brass double blocks and strung them with real hemp. My blocks are very muck functional. They work in concert with the breeching to dampen recoil Have shot some blanks usually when every one else shooting firecrackers...

I'll show you mine if you show me yours... I built this one in 1984 in Gunsmithing school. It is modeled after this gun from the U.S.S. Cairo First gun on the right.

Yes pressure reduction upon firing is one benefit. The other is to make loading easier. Recall the increased resistance to load a patched ball in even a smoothbore over the resistance of loading an unpatched ball in say a .50 cal musket for instance. The resistance is from friction of the...
