    Ks opener, 1 for 2...

My buddy Bill Martin, (hence the baseball reference), invited me to hunt the opener with him. Had birds gobbling at dawn but they went north so we looped around and down towards the creek and had two gobblers answering his calls. Well, a big tom in full display comes in but he hangs up a bit...

    Goex vs Schuetzen..?

I picked up some Schuetzen 2f this weekend and am wondering how it compares to the Goex ? The S. is cheaper than the Goex but, as Goex is our only USA blackpowder, I'll buy American whenever I can. Just wondering what to expect from the S. powder..?

    54/28ga for turkey..?

I have a nice little 54 smoothie "carbine" and was wondering if it is plausible to use it for a turkey hunt. I know I'd be limited as to shot volume capacity so would appreciate suggestions in that department. Anyone here ever try or succeed with this caliber/gauge?

    Help, lugs unsoldered..

While cleaning my smoothbore today what I thought were just missing pins turned out to be that the two lugs have broken away from the solder on the round portion. I indexed marked them and have them taped to the barrel in their spots so I don't lose them. So, all I have is your basic "harry...

    Kansas doe.

Kansas firearms season opened Wednesday and Thursday my good friend Tracy invited me out to share a blind. The morning hunt was a scenic sunrise of bird watching while being "serenaded" by the county road crew grader dragging the road below the ridge. :shake: Needless to say we didn't see...

    Tang screws..?

Over the years I've come across both the machine screw into the guard or trigger plate versions of securing the tang as well as the plain old wood screw into the stock versions. Both methods have worked with no, so far, ill effects. I'm guessing that the machine screw method is better thought of...

    Parker Hale Enfields?

One often hears about the quality and accuracy of the, now defunct, UK made Parker Hale muskets. Having not seen one in person I ask ,to those who own one, just how good were/are they? I have seen them occasionally for sale and usually at a premium price. So which types of Enfield, 2 band, 3...

    Turkey opener.

Today was the opener for Kansas turkey season and I met up with Tracy, aka KS Trapper, this morning before dawn. He knows and has permission for some of the best hunting spots in the region and was kind enough to invite me to share one of them. The Guide.(He brought the long bow to back up the...

    #4 or #6 shot..?

For turkeys that is. I have some of both and get decent patterns with the 1 3/8oz of 6's at 25yds out of my 62 caliber flintlock smoothbore. But now I am wondering if the 4's would give me better penetration ? (Provided I ever get a shot..) I'm hoping some of you successful hunters can give me...

    Old Goex tins...

The new Goex plastic "cans" are the new norm these days so what, if anything, are folks doing with all those old tins that we never threw away ? :hmm: Since my pour nozzle lid is for the old tins I just transfer from plastic to a tin can for use but I see that in the latest Muzzleblasts there...

    Old powderhorn...

Got looking at a horn that recently came into my possesion and I believe it is an actual antique powderhorn. It's a lobed horn with one side broken off and a crack at the plug. I got to looking at it close this weekend and I saw that the base plug has that old look you see on the underside of...
