    Patches

Rebel it has been proven time and time again that with both PRB and Conical bullets a change in lube can have a significant affect on accuracy. Also patch thickness has to be determined for a proper seal.

    Patches

Well cotton and pillow tick are the same - both cotton. To start, if you don't have a friend that has patches, is to purchase .010", .015" and .020" Oxyoke patches. Dry ones. Lube a couple of each with something simple like shortening and go shoot and see what thickness shoots better. You...

What makes a good patch knife?

I bought a dandy little patch knife at a gun show a while back. Its a custom job in a sheath with a leather strap that goes around your neck. I've been using it for years and I've yet to sharpen it but it will still shave hair off your arms! Only has about a 2.5" blade and about a 3" handle.

    Bore Seasoning

You don't need hot water but it facilitates the drying process.

    Bore Seasoning

I always remove and clean my sidelocks with warm soapy water followed by a hot water flush. Swab with dry patches then a coule patches with alcohol while barrel is,still hot, the a patch with oil to prevent rust. Store the barrel muzzle down for a day or two to allow any residual oil to flow...

    Bore Seasoning

I don't use the yelliw stuff anymore. I like the green pine scent much better. And it doubles as a car freshener!

    wasting powder & caps

So what do you do with that measurer? You set it and shove it into the spout end of the flask, fill, release the button closing the valve and presto, the measurer is full. Is that about right?

    wasting powder & caps

I have a series of spouts for my flask from 60 to 100 gr and one at 30 gr. I normally just tilt the flask, fill the spout and pour down the barrel. A lot of times I will fill loading tubes up the day before heading to the range. When hunting I have the rifle loaded and carry 2 or 3 speed...

    .45 caliber Seneca

Seems there are a couple here that are confused. For any black powder or subs charges 70 grs and above, far accuracy's sake, I weigh my charges. Now I don't go solely by weight. I pour 5 volume charges and weigh each one. Then the average weight of thos 5 volume charges is what I use to weigh...

SOLD SOLD - Shenadoah Kit - flint or percussion $400/$450

This is a pretty sweet deal. If I didn't have so many I'd jump on it. Changing from percussion to flint in a matter of mins! Its a no brainer.

Why does smokeless powder peel open a muzzleloader like a banana?

I did do the Google thing and that's where I got my information.

Why does smokeless powder peel open a muzzleloader like a banana?

Your top chart is misleading stalker because with the BP loads it is using a 500 gr bullet where the smokeless is using a 410 gr bullet. That would account for the higher pressures of the BP. The bottom chart is for a shotgun and although a rifle's pressure curve may be similar. I'd like to...

Why does smokeless powder peel open a muzzleloader like a banana?

What I thought I read is that black powder burns at a constant rate either open or confined whereas smokeless powder when confined burns faster the longer its confined and the faster the burn the more pressure is generated. Also smokeless does not need oxygen to burn where black does.

    Lefty shooter using right-handed flintlock??

Same here. Lyman used to make a LH flintlock Deerstalker so you might be able to find one. If not get the RH one and go shoot.

Most accurate flintlock rifle you own

Mine is my .58 Renegade with a barrel made by Bob Hoyt. It has a 1:66 twist 32" and a T/C lock that has been with me for 30 years. Its been on a few different flinters because it is the fastest lock I've ever seen from T/C. That lock besides being fast I took apart and polished all the surface...

    Pedersoli flintlock

No need to be confused. I was just stating that I saw them at a gun show. I just saw the price and I don't think they are worth it for a production gun. But that's my opinion.

    Pedersoli flintlock

Yes it was brand new but I didn't pull the trigger on it. Too many irons in the furnace already!

    Pedersoli flintlock

Ivwas at a gun show last weekend and one table had a couple Pedersoli flintlock rifles. Nice looking rifles but the price tag!!!! $1300 and more. I know I can get a new custom flintlock for less. In fact I was admiring one At a black powder shop a few weeks ago. 54 cal, 42" barrel, Chambers...
