Is any flintlock all that for everyone?

When conditions change, gun likes and dislikes can come into play. When we gave up horses, I came to find things I didn't like about that 11 pound .56 Hawken rifle. It was heavy, like really heavy when ambulating around by shank's mare. So I came to really like my 7 1/4 pound swamped barrel...

    Swamped or not?

I have two light weight swamped rocklocks for hunting, when after game, I don’t give much thought about shooting, guess reflexes or instinct comes into play for don’t remember much about taking the shot. But when it comes to paper punching, it is all about concentration and there a heavy...

    drop in barrels

Green Mountain was making some smoothie DI for the TC Hawken for a while. Guess they didn't pan out as to sales, for few years ago I got a .54 flinter smoothbore from them on sale for $100.00 Heavy, but shoots shot pretty good. Couldn't get used to the rifle sights, so removed and just went...

    Flint discovery

I have found the Brazilian agate best for making rocklock sparkers. Go to rock shows and ask the agate guys if they have any thin sawed scrap. I get it very cheap, then cut to size and edge on my diamond wet saw.

Drop in .54 for T/C hawken?

Nice looking rifle, IIRC Hopkins & Hobbs, used LaSalle stressproof for the steel in their barrels, was rated for 125,000 psi. See you have a globe sight on yours too. My globe sight is a beaded post which is ajustble for elevation, rear is fixed. Globe sight really helps these old eyes see...

Drop in .54 for T/C hawken?

I carry it very little, but sure like punching holes in paper from a rest and it is not nearly heavy as a Hawken made like an original. I know this one with the Orion barrel and old style stock, which is a great looking piece of wood, will never be going up for sale by me. My granddaughter...

Drop in .54 for T/C hawken?

I bought one of the .54 smootbores for $100.00 from GM when they were phasing them out. With tight patched ball out to about 50 yds, it will hold its own with a rifle. For shooting shot, I later removed the sights and just installed a bead on the front, but it is pretty heavy carry for a...

coneing a touch hole without an insert

I came up with the tool for a friend who was a purist, then some of his buddies wanted one. I did not want the hassel and being so simple to make, I just drawed it up for them where they could make their own.

coneing a touch hole without an insert

Very nice. :v I have seen some real Rube Goldberg affairs others make that are geared with a crank handle. :shake: Tom kept his simple and easy to use.

coneing a touch hole without an insert

I have no idea as to the internal touchhole coning tool Tom Snyder makes, but here is drawing of little KISS internal touchhole coning tool I came up with several years ago. Over the years the I have posted the drawing at several different ML venues and I know that others have made and used...

How to fill the space in BP revolver

I make my own simple BP lube, equal 1 cup volumes of melted beeswax and coconut butter with a table spoon of Mobil 1 oil stirred in. I also use Mobil 1 grease on 58 Remmy base pin which greatly extends shooting time. Both the Mobil syn oil and grease is unaffected by BP fouling unlike petroleum...

TC Flint Lock Swap For L&R ?

But as others have said, the new TC lock is much superior to the old style. I sent mine in for repair several years ago and had the new lock in just a few days, found it to be night and day difference. Cock geomety unlike the old, did not slam the frizzen, flint came in at the right angle and...

Neat multiple boolit mold in a small package

Much bigger package and from what I have read,, the Lee buck gang mold is a problem child. There have been fishing sinker gang molds around since Christ was a child.

Neat multiple boolit mold in a small package

To each there own I guess. :idunno: As to the two sprues, getting kicked in the butt with several 1,000 psi and getting zipped down the rifling at mucho rpm and 1500 fps. Methinks when one's pristine ball exits the muzzle. tis pristine no mas. I am just glad to see there are guys like him...

Neat multiple boolit mold in a small package

From what I read he has no intention of making them for sale.

Neat multiple boolit mold in a small package

Guy over on a forum which shall remain unnamed, made a unique and neat buckshot mold. He is neither a caster or shooter and made it up for a buddy of his. The design would also work for larger boolits and methinks will be seeing the major mold makers copying it.

single barrel 20 Gauge BP Shotgun ...I want one !

Few years back I got one of the GM $100.00 .54 (28 ga) flinter TC drop in barrels when on sale. Like you say. kinda like a heavy club and the rifle sights had to go, but was a near perfect drop in on my old style TC Hawken. If I wasn't afraid of stresses warping it, I would taper turn the...
