What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

I thought about working on my Leman . . . does that count?

    Thanks USPS

I grew up in a small town in the 50s. Our telephone system still had operators. I would pick up the phone and when asked "number please" I would say "I want to talk to gramma" and the operator would connect me. Of course, we lived in the same small town and half of us were related and knew the...

Lyman GPR Weight difference .50 vs .54

50 cal is roughly 0.3 lb heavier than a 54 cal. I have one of each and can't tell the difference without a scale.

    What did I just buy?????

MTFURY - Great score for you !!!! I will also agree with deerstalkert and bubba.50 . . . it is NOT a CVA Mountain rifle, but a full on custom build that closely resembles one. I have an older .45 cal CVA MR marked "made in USA" with a 32" barrel. The butt plate on yours appears to be a bit...

    What would you choose?

    .54 GPR & .54 GPP. Same caps, same powder, same patches & same balls . . .
  7. Otter

Ok, what is the best shot/shots you have seen or accomplished?

Lyman GPR .54 - split cards are 2 of 3 I split on 3 consecutive shots to win the shoot (15 yds off-hand)- Jack is two shots and I placed 4th (25 yds off-hand) . . . Some days you're on, some days not so much.

LYMAN GPR Users Unite and tell us your story

Won a factory built .50 cal Lyman GPR in a raffle about 1995 or so. I cast and shot .490 RB, spit lubed 300 to 450 TPI cotton patches (wore out bed sheets) cut at the muzzle over 50 to 75 gr Goex 3f BP (target/hunting). Shot it 4 or 5 years at various rendezvous shoots and placed or won enough...

Coldest temp you have ever shot in a match?

Our ML club had a annual "Hardwater Rendezvous" the first weekend of January just west of Onawa, IA (about 50-60 miles north of Omaha, NE). Set up Friday afternoon and break camp Sunday afternoon. One weekend the highest temp was -10*F and got as low as -25*F - snowed real light but steady all...

Stuck ball in a charged rifle

I would try a CO2 discharger first. If that doesn't work, use the ball puller . . . use a sturdy range rod NOT a wooden ram rod. Screw the puller well into the ball. Fix the "pulling" end of the rod in a vise or something else that will hold the end of the rod, get a good hold on the buttstock...

New Muzzle Loaders Or Projects For 2021?

Not a new project, but I really want to get back to finishing up a fullstock Leman .58 cal I bought the parts for over 10 years ago. Got as far as inletting the barrel and lock before getting buried with work. Been retired for a couple years and caught up with honey-do projects so I can to get...

    Pinning Ramrod Ends

I have pinned all my rod tips since day one. I put two in each tip about 1/2" apart and 90* opposed to each other. 1/16" drill bit and finish nails filed flush to the tip.

Switcheroo - Dually - Conversion - CL to FL??

I have a FL to CL convertible .45 cal rifle I had custom built for me. Neo-Lancaster style, Semi-fancy maple stock, 42" GM barrel with L&R matching locks. Take out the flint touch hole and lock, replace with the drum and percussion lock. Easy. Only caution is to NOT tighten the lock bolt too much.

    What is Moosemilk

Here is one (of many) recipes and is the one I use - Napa water soluble cutting oil (if your local napa store doesn't have it in stock the part number is 765-1526 for 1 pint) Murphy's oil soap 1 liter water bottle water rubbing alcohol (optional) Fill water bottle half full with WARM water...

Jag and Rod stuck in barrel

Could be bent ramrod . . . yes . . . easily rectified . . . roll on a flat surface and gently bend until it rolls with full contact. Could be bent thread on the end of the jag that screws into the ramrod . . . can be fixed relatively easily . . . gently bend. Could be the internal threads in the...

    Lead supply

'Bout 20 years ago bought 980# of soft sheet lead from an office remodel project. Paid $0.09 per pound. Still have about 450# in ingots ready to cast and lots of RBs and BPCR bullets ready to load. Sent a lot of them down range over the years. Sometimes it's just being in the right place at the...

    which powder?

I use Goex 1F in my shotguns. Goex 3F in all my other MLs and Goex 4F for flinter primer. None of my MLs have had any other BP Brand down the barrel . . . just how it worked out.

    Homemade Hard Cards

Place of employment in mid 90s used to run diazo prints for our projects. We bought paper by the pallets, 24x36 and 30x42. Each packet had two sheets of "cardboard" enclosed, one top, one bottom, similar to the backing of a pad of paper. I brought home scads of them to punch out over-powder card...

    Ted Cash boxes

I have two Tedd Cash brass cappers, one snail shape and one oval. They WILL get darker over time with use. How long it takes is up to how much you use them and how often you wash your hands between shots :thumb:.
