I was going to bring a couple of my smoke-poles to teach my grandkids up in Mass. Gads I can't travel with anything nor bring it up there. Have to go through NY, Conn then up to Mass. They are nuts up there. Even a BB gun is considered an illegal weapon in your car. It's nuts.- Pierre009

round balls don't do well
OK you guys have me interested...been using crisco & bees wax, mattress ticking & 495 balls...never had a problem but will try the TOW mink oil...thanks- Pierre009

Cleaning between rounds
Several of us that have been sacrilegious & have been using pyrodex found the more we shot without cleaning the accuracy stayed the same. One time we went through two cans of pyrodex & never once cleaned...that's what got us to switch from black powder to pyrodex...lazy & lazy. We lubed the...- Pierre009

Why would a ML rifle have a high POI?
I think one of the purposes of the high POI is as the old timers would say "bury the bead"...that way you can adjust for long distance shooting.- Pierre009

Lyman Great Plains
Was on a forum this morning with numerous people trying to figure out the twist of a Lyman Plains rifle. Someone posted the Lyman site. I email them to find out what my Lyman from the early 70s was. According to Lyman the 50 cal plains rifle has a 1:60 twist. If anyone has seen that forum...- Pierre009

Other factors must be involved...my 50 cal with 1:48 does great with 100 & 110 grains. Hole within a hole at 75 yards...I'll have to try a lesser load & see...- Pierre009

Don't feel alone...I a bit lazier. I preload using a loading block then load from the block until I run out of loaded balls...but use a wooden rod...490 ball with mattress ticking...never had to ram that hard.- Pierre009
