    Sky chief questions

I want to make sure I've got this right before trying it. Below the pics of cushion wad and I believe the cardboard ones are nitro cards ( how do you know if they are nitro cards.) Other question is the pic with skychief load Is this it? I thought I read about it before and it was much more in...

    My fusil pattern.

I'm not over joyed with it but it's not terrible I guess. Pic below poa is red dot. Looks like the pattern needs to be about 3 to 5 in. Higher what do you think? 3to5 higher will put close to 70% of the pattern above poa. 22 yards was distance. Looks like I'm limited to 20 maybe 25 yards on...

    Anyone use one if these?

I've got a Gemmer GPR coming. I would like to have a nice sight on it. Might hunt with it but I bought it mainly for just shooting anywhere from 25 yards out to as far as I can hit good. I'm thinking out to somewhere between 150 to 175 yards. I may be asking to much. My reason for posting is...

    How do you aim for

For your smooth bore shooting shot for squirrel and such. Do you just learn to aim high or low or do you have a front and rear sight? I have mine shooting about 30% of the pattern above poa and 70% below poa. Thanks

    Gemmer GPR question

I don't know why but I DO NOT like the ram rod retention spring or the cut out in the rib.Have any of you went so far as to soldering a new rib to get rid of this eye sore? I guess the pipes would need replaced to if they have the access hole for the screws. I've soldered one rib lately and it...

    Shot my 32 & 36 SMR,s today

Finally got my sights in order.pics below. The 36 was 7/16 & 3/4 above poa with a 7/16 group. The 32 was 1 in. And 9/16 above poa with a1/2 in. Group. I would have shot more but with each sight adjustment the shots went exactly where they should. After the zeroing was done I just shot 2 shots...

    Which rasps

I'm going to start on a Gemmer GPR kit in a couple weeks. I'm not happy the 3 or so rasps I've been using on other guns. I plan on buying a couple more that I can use to work down all the extra wood that the gpr I've heard has a decent amount. What size and and cut should I look for. I will...

I really don't want to but I may need to pull breech plug or drill and easy out my white lightning liner or maybe nothing. The liner I forgot to cut back so it doesn't stick into chamber. The liner is about 1/8 maybe more in front of breech plug face.I had to modify my scraper to get to BP. I'm...

I clean my guns well I thought after shooting. Well today just playing around I ran a wet patch down the fusil. Black fowling looks like I just fired a load. 20 patches later I think it's good now. Do any of you remove the lock and barrel and do the hot soapy buck of water method? I like my...

    Barrel question.

Can I get a replacement barrel for the Gemmer/Lyman great plains in other calibers? I would love to have a 32 or 36 for the rifle. I figure since it's hooked breech there should be replacements. Or what about a barrel tang and fit it in?

    Gemmer great plains

Do any ofyou have this rifle? I'm considering one. I had a lyman great plains which I believe is the same. Gemmer may have made a couple very Suttle changes. My concern is metal to wood fit since If I remember correct I read a couple not so great reveiws. I I get one I will go with the kit. Just...

    Patches

I'm using pocket drill for now. I believe it's going to shoot good for my 36. My only thing is I wish it was about .003 thinner. Takes some good whacks with the heel of my hand on the short starter. I need right at .025 that's not compressed.Anyone know of a good patch fabric that is that thickness?
