    Trigger on new Deerstalker

No problem! When I filled the loading tip with epoxy and clamped it in against the concave surface I set the clamp holding everything together with the loading tip pointing down. That way all the bubbles settle at the back of the tip and the concaceve surface is filled in smooth without any air...

    Trigger on new Deerstalker

I got a brass rod from October Country and the solid aluminum rod is from spinjag. Cut both to length. The loading tip made by TC did not have concave cup, more of a cylinder. I noticed that that kind of tip presses a ring into a pure lead ball when loading. Thus, I filled the cavity with epoxy...

    Trigger on new Deerstalker

Steve, I found that when loading a very lightly lubed, tight ball patch combo even with a bore guide the factory delrin rod was bending and rubbing against the barrel like noodle. I got a brass range rod and a solid aluminum one with a brass loading tip for an underbarrel rod.

First range session with Lyman Deerstalker

Thanks, Sam, I'll try that when the peep arrives.

First range session with Lyman Deerstalker

Thank you for the replies everyone! ElkStalker, I will have to try the water method. I know it's the old reliable way of cleaning, but wasn't sure how to wipe the patented breech dry of water since the jag stops right before it. I've since ordered a slotted jag that should reach the breech...

First range session with Lyman Deerstalker

Finally got to shoot my new Lyman Deerstalker .50 today. Goal was 5 shot groups with 65, 70, 75 and 80 grains of powder to find accuracy. However life happened, and due to time constraints I had to reduce my goal to getting the sights on target on 50 yards. I was shooting: 75 grains by volume...

Do paper patching and OP wads make rifling depth irrelevant for connicals?

Thanks for the replies everyone! I sent an email to MT FWP regarding paper patches and felt wads. The reply was that those are indeed legal for the state's heritage muzzleloader season.

Do paper patching and OP wads make rifling depth irrelevant for connicals?

Howdy, After reading many posts about barrel suitability for conicals I've been finding that most sucessfull load development stories mention OP wads or paper patch. If this is the norm, what do shallow grove barrels have to offer provided the same caliber and twist rate? My question is...

    Trigger on new Deerstalker

Thank you for the replies everyone! I cocked and dry-fired with a folded towel on top of the nipple over a hundred times without any perceptable change. Then I found this post and followed the directions: This improved the weight of pull and the trigger now breaks without getting hung up. In...

    Trigger on new Deerstalker

Howdy, I recently bought a brand new Lyman Deerstalker percussion in a .50 and would like to know others' experiences with the lock and trigger. My conservitive estimate would be that it breaks at well over 6 lbs. Cocking the gun revealed some rougness when the hammer is cocked back from half...

    Greetings from Montana

Hello everyone, I've been interested in muzzleloading for a long time and the recently introduced Montana heritage muzzleloader hunting season has compelled me to acquire a Lyman Deerstalker percussion in .50. My intent is to hunt deer and potentially elk/bear provided I can find some short...
