    Blunder Brown

I used Birchwood Casey Plum Brown Finish. I was really pleased with the outcome. The instructions say to heat to about 275 but I measured around 350 with the laser temp reader I use for lead. I did change the ems setting to steel first. I did find that a cotton applicator was best. I tried a...

    Blunder Brown

I browned the barrel on the Blunderbuss. I used the plumb brown on this barrel. After making some bacon in the oven, I used a cookie sheet and some parchment paper with crumbled up tin foil underneath to keep the barrel from rolling. Oven was at 325 so I slid the barrel in. I used a digital...

    Blundering along into Flintlocks

First time fully assembled. I spent a few hours today shaping the stock at the trigger guard, and the hammer. It moves freely now. I did stone the back of the bolster and it has a tight fit to the barrel. I put a small piece of leather under the rear of the barrel and shimmed the tang with...

    Blowing down the barrel

With as many folk as there are that don't think a lot, it may be a good practice. I can just see someone popping a modern revolver, go to blow down the barrel, and desk pop their forehead. Darwin? Or as Scrooge says, "reducing the surplus population"?

Any chance we'll see powder from Goex in 2023 ?

My world is pretty small. I'm sure there are, but I'm not aware of any. And, thus far Oregon has not gone that communist. Yet!!!

You can have any powder shipped to your door. But it sure is cheaper when it's on the shelf. Hazmat by the pound is spendy at my door. Even in larger quantities! It will be much better when it hits the LGS.

    Dumping Ballistol and Gun Oil

For modern guns I use a spray bottle of Simple Green, full strength, scrub and rinse in HOT water bath. Dry and spray with Balistol. Wipe down, reassemble. Water and and Balistol for BP is all I use. Then rub a little Balistol on for irritated, dry skin. LOL

Exactly why I buy in bulk.

    Blundering along into Flintlocks

Lots of progress today. Got the plate inlet into the stock to close the bomb gap. Shortened the screws and blued the tips. Had to remove the hammer, tumbler and sear assemblies. One for cleanup and stoning. The sear looked like an orange peel and matched the full cock notch. Now that it is...

    Dumping Ballistol and Gun Oil

In thinking of a bulk replacement for balistol, I come up short. But If I used just Hot water, (Modern guns get Simple green and hot water) I could get lard in a large can in the hispanic foods department at wally world. After properly cleaning the bore, and drying, then a greasy patch down the...

    What are your excuses please.

My wife came in and said, "We need another shotgun!" I said ok, moments later.... Click... It'll be here in a week. Where we gonna put it, I ask. She says, where the other one was. I say, I just got done cleaning that one, where we gonna put it?? Silence....... I guess we'll find a spot, she...

    Blundering along into Flintlocks

The barrel Fits the tang and barrel channel in the stock. It's quite snug. I can install the barrel, tang and trigger assembly. The inletting is quite good. I will need to do some inletting to get the lock in. Around the rear of the pan and the of course the plate. I can tell already that the...

    Blundering along into Flintlocks

Next up; I'm looking at the fitting of parts. The trigger guard was inlet quite deep, and so was the tang. OR there is just a lot of extra wood here. If I remove too much lumber from around the tang it would come really close to the lock on the right and bushings on the left.

    Blundering along into Flintlocks

A question on the leathers for the flint. I am assuming it should be as wide as the flint. How much should over hang the from the hammer.
