WITHDRAWN $75 dropped price New Traditions St. Louis Hawken stock with furniture

I have heard rumors that not all of these were butchered at the factory... This one is tempting to replace the stock that came in my kit. I'll have to think about it a little more.

When you test this, start a new thread and take pictures please.

How safe is it to use lead round balls while hunting?

Try powder coat if you are concerned, depending on how it distorts no lead will be exposed. What I don't know is how round ball coats. You will definitely need a no stick silicone sheet or no stick aluminum foil.

Polishing the bore on a new ML.............

My suggestion is to use a felt pellet and White Diamond metal polish. Cuts fast and leaves a smooth surface. Here is the tool I built for holding the pellets, a #8-32 brass screw and a couple brass nuts. These have been cut down with a drill and file to better fit a 357 bore. You do need a ball...

Glad I got a Cap making kit

Duco and solvent is an interesting choice, I'll have to remember that.

Glad I got a Cap making kit

It's a bit more money, but Dixie Gun Works has the kit and chemicals, safer place to order if anyone is concerned.

    Mystery tool/gauge

Turn counter? Maybe part of a positioning device for a lathe carriage?

    Blowing down the barrel

I only use a brass hammer when pounding large balls into small bores, makes a bullet shaped projectile. Really rough on the ram rod though.

Hmmm, that BB cap is an interesting idea!

    Tips for a Casting Newby?

From Ingot to Target: A Cast Bullet Guide For Handgunners, Table of Contents - Fryxell/Applegate there is a PDF link in the upper left side, should have pretty much all the info you need on general casting.

    Options on finish

Old nails and vinegar, test to make sure you like the color, and it takes a long time to create the iron acetate. Ferric nitrate crystals are pretty cheap, mix with distilled water. Heat either and you should get a decent brown, then cover with oil or other top coat.

Got a link? I can troll that one as well!

    Lets see those Range Boxes!!

I have two old tool boxes up in the attic, there were there when we moved in. That attic has saved me several times now, lots of useful stuff up there. I'll have to pull both of those down and see what I can build. I'll probably still leave the bottle of powder in a metal ammo can, just to make...

    Percussion caps

Yikes, I beat the $21.50 at a gunshow, and the guy knew how difficult they were to get. I paid $15 each 100 and should have grabbed the other 3 tins he had while I was there. Was being the nice guy and leaving a few for the next person. Not sure I'll do that again.

Where can you find brass slotted flathead woodscrews ?

One of the hardware stores near me was closing out a bunch this type of hardware, so it might be harder to find in the future.

    Blowing down the barrel

And with one post, I reeled in a bunch of you! We are at 10 pages, might even go to 11 with this post or the next. The challenge was thrown back a ways and I picked it up, even told you I was playing the troll card. Yet some people respond with strong words like I just cursed their mothers and...

    Am I color blind?

Can you try a green filter in front of your eyes? The blood should then be dark. Not sure it will work, but a possible work around.

    Blowing down the barrel

So... Lets say you use compressed air. Is that of value? Does the compressed air need to be bubbled through water to pick up moisture? Does anyone actually believe that blowing "fresh air" into the barrel before loading really affects how the powder burns for the next shot? Yes, now I'm...

PID temperature controller for Lee 420 pot settings?

Adding a tray of ammo, about 2 pounds worth, didn't really change the results. Now my oven is under better control so even if this doesn't work for my lead pot, it will be money well spent for powder coating. I'll have to get some casting done soon to try this out. The odd thing is that the...
